TOUR OF DUTY author and John Kerry historian Doug Brinkley is rushing a piece for the NEW YORKER: to set-the-record-straight on Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia tale, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Kerry has turned to author Brinkley for a "modification" after it was exposed that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas of 1968, as he once claimed from the Senate floor.
The Brinkley piece for the NEW YORKER will now say that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas, but rather in January, publishing sources tell DRUDGE.
MORE
Since the early 1970s, Kerry has spoken and written of how he was illegally ordered to enter Cambodia. Kerry mentioned it in the floor of the Senate in 1986 when he charged that President Reagans actions in Central America were leading the U.S. in another Vietnam. Heres what he said as excerpted from the new book, UNFIT FOR COMMAND:
"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."
John ONeils, author of UNFIT FOR COMMAND, comments on the clarification:
John Kerry describes Christmas Eve in Cambodia as a critical turning point in his life. We now know that his story is completely false. My question is how many people do you know have invented a turning point, one that is seared in his memory? While it makes sense for John Kerry to come clean about the Cambodia story, it is one of several tales that the Kerry campaign will have to face and clarify.
By claiming we were engaged in a war crime and crossing international borders, John Kerry damaged the credibility of all the commanding officers above him and insulted the sailors who served with him, said John ONeill, member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
Developing...
"Modification", is that what they now call "damage control".
If you're making homosexual aspersions... Yeah, probably.
I have been working on that. Got an excel spreadsheet with a daily timeline that shows known information on where he was, who he was with, what boat, what events, etc. Have it cross-referenced to sheets with the documentation about the people involved, the locations, the boats, everything that was said.
Anybody that can provide me with documented info, I would love to get it. Maybe we can narrow this guy's wiggle room down to nothing, and possibly also find existing inconsistencies that haven't yet been found. At least make it hard for him to come up with new stories.
"I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."
Note to self:
Never iron your boonie hat while you're wearing it.
However, I think Kerry is digging himself DEEPER into the doo-doo since it is IMPOSSIBLE that he was in Cambodia in January 1969.
Kerry's memory needed jogging. It slipped his mind that Christmas is not in January.
His timing is still off.
There's at least one date missing there. On 6 Dec Kerry is at Phu Quoc Island which is off the southern coast of Vietnam (if I didn't know that it was Vietnamese, I would have figured that it was Cambodian, due to its western (relative to Vietnam ) location). On 13 Dec, he is assigned to Cam Rahn Bay, which is nowhere near the Mekong Delta. Later entries in this log have him back in the Delta. When is he assigned back to there?
I don't care if Ketchup Boy changes the month to February. He was NEVER in Cambodia on his Swift Boat except maybe in his Apocalypse Now fantasies.
No, my understanding is that the PCFs were used, among other missions, to ferry troops. Go to historynet.com and read the article by Brinkley on Kerry's last mission. I don't trust Brinkley but the article surely must surely give some insight into PCF tactics and doctrine.
No, instead, for 35 years, spin crazy yarns about the Kerry Kristmas Kambodian Kaper, instead of just blowing away the opposition with documented secret missions.
Even my dad, who had high-level security clearances during his cold-warrior days, felt compelled to tell me a few of his secrets after he'd been retired for a few years. A loon like Kerry would have spilled the beans 30 years ago if they had any basis in reality.
FYO Ping
This new spin will be seen as SPIN and track-covering.
Thanks for the ping!
The incursion into the Parrot's Beak region of Cambodia was announced by Nixon on April 30, 1970. Over a year AFTER Ketchup Boy left Vietnam.
Cinco de Mayo?
He was with the sandinista's in Honduras. He kept a straw hat from that one. He has a special compartment in his left shoe.
I understand he was in Grenada under Regan. He kept a medical degree from that one. He bergers it in his socks...
He also air dropped into france with the OSS uner Roosevelt. He kept a pack of moldy Galoise. They are in his T shirt pocket.
"I think there is little question that Alston served on Kerry's boat for at least a short while, as there are pictures with Kerry accompanied by Alston."
~~~~~
Ah yes, the photo of Alston and Kerry and several other guys on the boat.
There was quite a bit of discussion yesterday on another thread about that very photo.
It seems the case can be made quite believably that the photo was tampered with...
The shadows are all wrong on it, and as one poster described it: "There were 2 suns in the sky that day!"
