Kerry's Latest Flip-Flop, Cambodia -- Did He Lie to the U.S. Senate?

Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry has waffled again, this time on his own recollections of a supposed mission to Cambodia on Christmas of 1968.

On the Senate floor on March 27, 1986 (Congressional Record, page S3594), Sen. Kerry said:

I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what is was like to be shot at by Vietnamese and Khme Rouge and Cambodians, and have the President of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; The troops were not in Cambodia…I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me....

In an October 14, 1979, letter to the Boston Herald, Sen. Kerry wrote of his vivid memories of his Christmas Eve spent in Cambodia (quoted in Unfit for Command, page 46):

I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real.

But today, on Fox News' "Fox and Friends," Kerry Campaign Advisor Jeh Johnson had this to say to the show's co-host Brian Kilmeade:

JOHNSON: John Kerry has said on the record that he had a mistaken recollection earlier. He talked about a combat situation on Christmas Eve 1968 which at one point he said occurred in Cambodia. He has since corrected the recorded to say it was some place on a river near Cambodia and he is certain that at some point subsequent to that he was in Cambodia. My understanding is that he is not certain about that date.

KILMEADE: I think the term was he had a searing memory of spending Christmas - back in 1986 in the senate floor in Cambodia.

JOHNSON: I believe he has corrected the record to say it was some place near Cambodia he is not certain whether it was in Cambodia but he is certain there was some point subsequent to that that he was in Cambodia.

This is all seared into his brain.

I suggested on another thread that he has a Write-Only Memory (WOM).

Yep!!!
He did!!!
The scrondrel lied again!
He just can't seem to help it.

I think all dems have an innate propensity to lie like, I've never seen before!
This guy has been lying all his life. Sounds like Scott Peterson, Mark Hacking, and all the islamists we've heard about lately.
That propensity is rearing it's ugly head all over this campaign

He's a demoncrapt isn't he? And they accuse us of lying, they are systemic patholigical lyers, and won't admit it, aka bill klintoon and wife and now kerry.

I think you have hit on something... This similarity to the plot of Apocalypse Now, along with the timing of Kerry's first mentioning Cambodia is a little strange. Did Kerry watch it and become delusional, thinking it was him in the movie?

How can you have mistaken "searing" recollections?

Back in the late 60's those were referred to as "trips." Today they are referred to as drug induced hallucinations.

Or lies.

Question: "Kerry's Latest Flip-Flop, Cambodia -- Did He Lie to the U.S. Senate?"

Response: Yes.

Comment: He is a politician, in America, in 2004 AD. Of course he lies. It is their nature, their essence, their very being.

They got Leftie Lanny on now berating O'Neill and Unfit for Command.. LOL

He says he has found lies ,, many lies,, as many as a hundred lies and he wishes he had the time to tell about all of them on the show..

and then he goes to the first one...

None of the 60 officers and swifties served on the same boat as sKerry .. LOL

The left is lost and they just don't know how to tuck their tail between their legs and hide in the shadows of Kerry and Clinton's marvelous madeup wartime legacies.

This is too much.. lol

Ok, but his new story makes his Senate speech look pretty bizarre:

I remember what is was like to be shot at by Vietnamese and Khme Rouge and Cambodians, and have the President [elect] of the United States telling the American people [ the truth that ] that I was not there; The troops were not in Cambodia…[and of course he was telling the truth. For some bizarre reason ] I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me....

Somebody in Kerryland screwed up:
Lyndon B Johnson
Thirty-Sixth President
1963-1969

Richard M Nixon
Thirty-Seventh President
1969-1974
Source: White House web site
Nixon wasn't even President when Kerry was supposedly getting shot at during Christmas of 1968. They're blaming Republicans for everything else though so why not that.

It is obvious that he lied but when he made the statements as a senator he was not under oath. However, when he testified to the Congress as a young man he was under oath. I don't know if he mentioned this incident in that testimony but it would be interesting if he did.

Wherever he was on Christmas Eve he was not alone. Why don't some enterprising reporters ask his crew members if THEY were ever in Cambodia?

Bill Hobbs This story is important, for Kerry has been caught not just aggrandizing his own image a la Al Gore four years ago, but has been caught in a lie of major proportions delivered on the Senate floor in an effort to shape U.S. foreign policy.

Tomorrow's explanation will be:

Kerry dropped his compass as they were heading into Cambodia, so he had to rely on the stars for navigation.

He thought he was in Cambodia, but he wasn't.
