Will Kerry's supporters stop at nothing?

The cover of the new anti-Kerry book, Unfit for Command, set to hit shelves soon, has been given an alternative, pro-Kerry cover at the Barnes & Noble online store. The title of the book has been changed to Fit for Command, and the cover image has been changed from a close-up of a finger-pointing Kerry to a picture of Kerry in uniform with other Vietnam veterans. (The book currently sits at #7 on the Barnes & Noble Top 100 and at #2 on Amazon.)

The book, which challenges the "war hero" status of John Kerry's four months in Vietnam, was a part of a major firestorm last week as portions of the book were first revealed by The Drudge Report and a new anti-Kerry advertisement from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth -- a "527" group of which the author of Unfit, John O'Neill, is a member -- was first reported by Human Events Online. Following the Human Events exclusive, a letter from DNC and Kerry lawyers to various TV stations attempting to intimidate them into blocking the ad from the airwaves was also exclusively revealed by Human Events Online.

Though no information on the source of the cover change has been found, the latest tactic from the pro-Kerry crowd -- whether from a computer hacker or an employee of Barnes & Noble -- can hardly be considered surprising.

This is great news IMO. The more this book is in the news the more questions about Kerry’s credibility are in the news. It doesn’t matter what the truth is or who is suing who. Taking a page from the Left- let the lawsuits flow, let them hack away.

Let’s claim that someone is trying to squash the author’s First Amendment Rights! The RNC should have a press conference demanding Kerry denounce such dirty tricks. John McCain should get on a Sunday show and talk about the nastiness of this whole thing (fat chance). LOL.

This is classic big league politics. Controversy breeds attention and more people will buy the book. Maybe the altered title will prompt so maybe some on-the-fence-type or a Kerry supporter to buy the book. Only good can come of this. Relax and enjoy… unless a reporter asks you what you think; then be OUTRAGED!

I emailed the staff just before they changed the main picture for the book to it's rightfull one.

I was both surprised and dismayed when I viewed your changed cover for the book Unfit for Command. I have been a loyal customer of Barnes & Noble for many years as I am an avid sci-fi fan and you have some the best selection, but I can not trust your authenticity in the future if you have made such a great mistake with a top ten book. I can believe it is a mistake if you take actions to correct the mater and discipline the person who is responsible for this purposeful error in judgment. Thank You. I was thinking current sales might be depressed among folks who have an account set up with B& N but are put off by the thought of ordering a book from a web page that is "funny."

They might figure, if the picture is hacked, something else, (like the shipping information page), at B& N might be hacked.

Those people might wait to go to a bricks-and-mortar bookstore, after the book comes out.

Boy this makes me want to go out and use Barnes and Noble's website. They either were hacked or their internal security was so lax that an employee was able to make the change without getting caught. Makes you wonder how safe credit card information is on their site.
