Suppose in the 1992 presidential election, after an unconfirmed rumor surfaced about an alleged affair then President Bush had years earlier, Clinton supporters decided to make marital fidelity a central issue. That would be almost as crazy as the current effort by some Bush backers to focus attention on John Kerry's Vietnam War record and subsequent protests. This is being significantly funded and directed by Texas fat cats and political operatives who have more than a passing relationship with Bush political guru Karl Rove. These are some of the same people who surreptitiously smeared John McCain in the last election. There's a Web site, some vicious TV ads are supposed to start this week, and a man, who was a pawn of the Nixon White House efforts to discredit John Kerry 33 years ago, has written a book attacking Mr. Kerry's Vietnam experiences. The charges are that Sen. Kerry has exaggerated his war record, maligned all Americans soldiers when he later protested against the war, and learned the wrong lessons from Vietnam.

Note to self...Do not question anything unless pre-approved by Al Hunt and DNC.
SAY WHAT?
Is Al Hunt a liberal?
Gee, I think that we need to consult our good friend Chou En-Lai.
Chou, were you a communist?
Chou:
(Roasting on a spit. Being jabbed by assorted demons.)
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! PAIN!!!!!!! STOP!!!!!!!
What are you worried about Mr. Woofwoof. Afraid the truth will be revealed.
Anyhow, SwiftVets fire back!
Will someone please tell me exactly what was done to McCain in South Carolina? I'm tired of all the hints that this was so horrible without really saying what it was. I think McCain thought he was on a roll and George Bush beat him soundly in South Carolina. I think there were probably shenanagans from both sides but Bush came out on top.
Kerry needs to address the issue of his mental stability. Why did he machinegun an unarmed, wounded VC in the back, rather than taking him as a POW for interrogation? And why did he burn the villagers homes and slaughter their livestock? If Kerry went mad during his 4 month tour of Vietnam, this information must be made available to the American people.
When a previous Democrat presidential candidate lied, she not only made charges but she had audio tape PROOF to back it up. It still didn't matter to the mainstream media. She was just told she was a liar and to shut up.
I don't expect the Swifties will fare any better setting the record straight about Kerry.
What goes around comes around it appears to me that the dims have been questioning Bush's military record for quite some time now.
I couldn't agree more. The thought of a Kerry Presidency scares me more and more everyday...
If Bush had said and done the exact same things that Kerry said and done about his Vietnam service, Bush would be hung by the dims.
What Al Hunt doesn't get is this: The Swift Boat Vets' accounts of what happened in Vietnam are sworn affadavits. Kerry's accounts are not. And this is never mentioned by Kerry's supporters. Not that it would matter. Hell, their hero Clinton made a career out of lying under oath.
EXACTLY!
Did John Kerry serve in Vietnam? This is the first I've heard of it. It's shameful for the Republicans to bring up his war record, it's not like Kerry had Spiel-berg rework a bunch of bogus home movies and show them at the Democratic convention. I'm certain that with Kerry's long record in the Senate he will not run on something that happened 35 years ago.
/ OK, I'm sorry. NOT!

[I will do time in Gehenna for that mixed metaphor.]
Nor more fake than his "hair"!
