Scouts ‘surprised and deeply saddened’ by Hegseth’s proposal to cut ties

Scouting America responded on Tuesday to a reported memo from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth seeking to cut ties with the organization, saying it was “surprised and disappointed” by the potential policy change, as the military has given its support to the Scouts since 1937.

Congress requires the Pentagon to support Scouting America’s Jamboree, lending trucks, ambulances and medical teams free of charge.

“The Scouting movement has had a strong relationship with our nation’s military going back more than a century,” according to the group. “From the tremendous support of the West Virginia National Guard at our National Jamborees to Scout troops that provide stability for the children of military families deployed around the globe, our nation’s military has walked side-by-side with Scouts for generations.”

It also noted that “an enormous percentage of those in our military academies are Scouts and Eagle Scouts.”

Hegseth is reportedly upset with the group for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. His memo, first reported by NPR, accuses Scouting America — formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America — of attacking boy-friendly spaces and for being “genderless.” The memo has yet to be sent to Congress.

“The organization once endorsed by President Theodore Roosevelt no longer supports the future of American boys,” Hegseth wrote in the memo.

The proposal calls for the Pentagon to pull medical and logistical aid to the National Jamboree, an event where up to 20,000 Scouts gather at a remote site in West Virginia about every four years. It also looks to prohibit Scouting troops from meeting at military installations in the U.S. and abroad.

In a statement to The Hill, a Pentagon official said the department “will not comment on leaked documents that we cannot authenticate and that may be pre-decisional.”

But Hegseth can withhold such aid  if he determines giving...

What has happened to BSA is a catastrophe - no dispute there - but the 3 citizenship badges were required for Eagle as long ago as 1962, and maybe before.

I think Soil and Water Conservation was, too - not positive about that, though.

On my honor, I’ll do my best…

I earned my Eagle Scout rank on April 12, 1972. I was 15 at the time. San Diego County. The gays had been attacking the scout facilities in Balboa Park and Fiesta Island. The scouts shouldered the costs of maintenance of both locations and the Balboa Park facilities were open for general public use. That wasn't enough for the gays. They wanted open access to membership in the troops as well as adult advisors. The fight went national and the national leadership bent over for the gays. That was the beginning of the end for the organization.

My son joined the scouts and rapidly advanced. He earned First Class before the first court of honor was convened after he joined. The scoutmaster said he should "slow down". Wrong thing to say. He hit the brakes and left. All of that energy was redirected to graduation with a 4.33 GPA.

After I moved to Idaho, the LDS church was a principal sponsor for local scout troops. I supported the local activity and even showed up in my uniform with Eagle Scout medal and the full sash of badges for a special event. I can still fit in the uniform today, but it is a bit baggy on me at age 69. That won't be happening again because the LDS church dropped the scouting program after it went so far off the rails.

The three Citizenship merit badges were part of the required merit badges needed to become an Eagle Scout in 1966 (the year I earned the reward). My merit badge counselor was a very conservative attorney. I would need to review the merit badge booklets which I still have, but recall nothing in the requirements that could be called indoctrination.

I was a Scout and there is no way I’d do this bisexual setup, now.

It’s completely wrong.

All the boys should just become Girl Scouts, and let’s see what remains of that organization.

Yes...I was a Girl Scout from 2nd thru 12th grade...way back when. It helped me greatly, as I had two dysfunctional parents. I got to witness “normal” because I had the same leader for those years, and she and her husband were so nice to me. Now I would not recommend Girl Scouts to anyone.

“I stopped supporting them when they went gay.”
Same with me. I was a scout leader back in the 90’s when my boys were involved. BSA at the time required adult leaders to be trained in appropriate vs inappropriate behavior with kids. They also conducted background checks into potential adult leaders to ensure that they didn’t have any pedophiles filling leadership roles. We all had a patch sown on the left sleeve of our uniform that said “trained” after completion of the course.

You, Hegseth, the LDS Church, several conservative Protestant sects and millions of others.

Once the BSA decided that providing boys for gay scoutmasters was more important than providing growing opportunities for boys, they $#*+ in their own nest. Not smart.

Back in the ‘60s the Boy Scouts wanted to have their meetings in our church. They met in churches a lot back then.

Dad said they couldn’t; he had a bad feeling about where the organization was headed. He was prescient about a lot of things.

Go back to “Boy Scouts of America”

See what happens.

This is why I disagree that we can simply shut down corruption of our children by eliminating ‘public education’.

They are EVERYWHERE.

Personally, I favor the rubber hose treatment (peer pressure), but I’m fine with CWII (but that’s not what I prefer for its label).

"Scouts ‘surprised and deeply saddened’ by Hegseth’s proposal to cut ties"

You just know somethings going to be left out of the story when the sHill seems to come out in support of the scouts.

It became Scouting For Boys.

LOL! Right around the time they allowed gay scout masters.

The Pentagon agreement was with the Boy Scouts, and organization which no longer exists.

They have no agreement with the Clown World transvestites, sodomites, feminists and saphists and their sycophants running the organization that replaced them.

It’s hard to argue with his reasoning , most of the scout masters were moms and they all had thier boys dopped up on generic Ritalin, like that was good for the country ? ?

I feel bad when I see the local Boys Scouts try to fundraise in the neighborhood. They had no idea how it was back in the day and I don’t want to lecture boys why I won’t support them anymore.

I didn’t have any contact with Boys Scouts growing up, but I’m painfully aware of how it has evolved. My son is in a Catholic scouting program; all boys, no moms allowed to volunteer, only dads, and he’s loving it!!!!. Catholic Church is also going woke, but I’m in a very traditional, TLM parish.
