Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in US men, excluding skin cancer, and the second-leading cause of male cancer deaths, after lung cancer.
One in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and about 3% of men will die from it.
Early-stage prostate cancer often has no warning signs because the tumor is small and hasn’t spread — a PSA test can help detect potential problems before symptoms develop.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Here’s what you should know about updates to screening guidelines, advances in treatment and the one diet that may help prevent it.

Things that can be done at early discovery are many, getting screenings is important.
Can but doesn't always. The digital check is also necessary. My husband's PSAs were normal but the digital detected a slight difference which got biopsied which showed cancer. All contained within the gland but still there.
As annoying as the digital is ... just do it.
Screenings are important and are standard of care. So why wasn’t joe biden getting them?
I remember reading about screenings like PSA tests and mammograms back in 2000. Every indication was we'd have better tests 25 years later, but we don't.
We do have these full body screenings and some other blood test. The high sensitivity CRP can sometimes detect cancer in general early.
Get a digital exam then pee in cup, better than PSA, will detect cancer is there.
That’s the test which gives every doctor license to jam his finger up your butt. It may be the best way but it’s not pleasant. Unless you’re the type that enjoys having things inserted up your butt and you know who you are.
I didn't know lung cancer was the top killer cancer of men.
My early stage prostate cancer was diagnosed a couple weeks ago, excellent prognosis with treatment.
Great. Good luck!
Thanks, I’m not worried.
“Digital” - it’s not as high-tech as you might think (if you catch my drift...)
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it,
jk
Wouldn’t analog be more accurate?
“It may be the best way but it’s not pleasant.”
It is not nearly as unpleasant as being told you have cancer that has spread out of control. I try to keep that in mind when I go for my yearly exam.
Most doctors don’t do DRE’s anymore. The PSA is statistically more effective.
Bkmk
What's wrong with you? "License" ... like they enjoy doing it? How else are they going to feel the prostrate?
What does "pleasant" have to do with anything? Women get the speculum and pap smears every year. Plus the boob mash getting mammograms. No one likes it but it's necessary.
I'm pretty sure the doctors are even less thrilled with the procedure than the patients.
Good luck with what ever treatment you choose.
I just had my 10th “anniversary” of my last radiation seeding. There are so many improvements in treatment since back then. My guess is you have an excellent, excellent shot at nipping this in the bud
Oh? Side effects to the radiation treatment? I don’t need a night light when I tinkle in the middle of the light.(just kidding)
bump for reference
