Can but doesn't always. The digital check is also necessary. My husband's PSAs were normal but the digital detected a slight difference which got biopsied which showed cancer. All contained within the gland but still there.
As annoying as the digital is ... just do it.
I remember reading about screenings like PSA tests and mammograms back in 2000. Every indication was we'd have better tests 25 years later, but we don't.
We do have these full body screenings and some other blood test. The high sensitivity CRP can sometimes detect cancer in general early.
Get a digital exam then pee in cup, better than PSA, will detect cancer is there.

Most doctors don’t do DRE’s anymore. The PSA is statistically more effective.

No digital check for me. They sent me to an imaging center for an MRI. Had about eight total scans. Meeting with Dr. tomorrow to see what they reveal.
