One Twin Went Vegan, The Other Ate Meat. This Is What Happened.

Identical twins Hugo and Ross Turner have submitted themselves to become a pair of human guinea pigs and investigate whether a vegan diet is healthier than eating meat and dairy.

The Turner brothers are typically seen adventuring around the world, but the pair have recently been using their credentials as genetically identical twins for the benefit of science. As part of a recent study at the Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology at King's College London, the twins followed two distinctly different diets for 12 weeks: Hugo ate strictly vegan food, while Ross continued to eat meat and dairy products.

"We wanted to use the model of identical twins, who are genetic clones, to test the effect of diet and exercise and how these individuals respond to different types of food," explains Professor Tim Spector, an epidemiologist at King’s who led the research, speaking in a video for BBC Reel.

The results were subtle, but significant. Compared to meat-eater Ross, vegan Hugo experienced a massive drop in cholesterol and a sharp increase in resistance to type 2 diabetes. Hugo said that he struggled with the vegan diet for the first few weeks, experiencing huge cravings for meat and cheese, but he eventually got used to it and claimed to feel more energetic.

Notably, the vegan diet was associated with a steadier blood sugar level and energy level, while the carnivorous diet resulted in harsher peaks and dips of energy. Interestingly, however, the vegan diet resulted in a severe reduction in gut bacteria diversity, while it remained stable during the meat and dairy diet. In theory, this means that vegan Hugo could potentially have been more susceptible to illnesses compared to Ross.

Larger-scale research has revealed some surprising insights into gut bacteria and how individuals respond to food. A 2019 study by the same team at King’s College London found that peoples’ responses to the same foods are unique, even between identical twins. Despite eating the same meals, some people have sharp increases in blood sugar and insulin, which are linked to weight gain and diabetes, while others have fat levels that linger in the bloodstream, raising the risk of developing heart disease.

The reason for this, the study argues, is likely down to the gut microbiome – the trillions of bacteria that inhabit the intestinal tract. Although genetics does play an important role in how we process food, the gut microbiome also has a profound effect by influencing how the food is broken down. Since the composition of the microbial colony varies from person to person, so do our responses to the same food.

"We find that, on average, most identical twins only share between 25 and 30 percent of their microbes with each other," explained Professor Spector. "We think this is why many of their metabolisms are different and why they react to food differently."

Sounds like the vegan was on an incredibly healthy, carefully controlled diet; but the meat and dairy twin was eating a lot of processed food.

No, we are Genetically Modified Organisms who then adapted through hybridization of genes to further the best attributes of survivability.

Just as plants hybridize to better survive a particular environment. Even now some families lines have huge heads, others have small heads. Some have intelligence some do not. All dictated by how much meat was eaten through the generations.

I do not believe in evolution, but I do believe in GMO and hybridization of the GMOs towards genetic survival of the fittest.

Because they have not yet been Genetically Modified yet as we were in the past. Give it a few more thousand years... And they will.

Reheat it and it is good to go. Know why old recipes say to sift flour? To crush the weevils. Ever wonder why Great Grandma’s muffins always had brown specs? That is why... They threw nothing away...

They have been eating meat as long as we have.

So the "few more thousand years" have passed.

Still no sign of Chimp learning how to control fire, cook, develop art or doing anything but screeching, throwing poo and copulating with any female they can get to hold still. Something like Anti-fa now that I think of it.

The LDS and the Jehovah’s Witnesses have similar dietary restrictions with the exception of meat. Mormons discourage eating meat where the JW’s outright forbid it.

But overall, Mormons are healthier.

Not appetizing but factual undisclosed reason. They threw nothing out. A few brown specs in the flour does not make that flour inedible. In fact it adds protein. When it comes to filling the belly to survive they were not too picky.

Meat was hung without refrigeration, and they just carved off the moldy rotten “rind” to get into better slices without the mold. Moldy dry aging was popular because they had no choice. Like Dry salami. They were tough in those days, they did not live in a perfect little sanitary bubble of politically correctness.

“I’m not eating that” was a totally unknown phrase. They ate everything they could get and threw none of it away, just cooked it again and added more to it. The 24-7 stew pot with weevil biscuits was a real thing, and common...

And if the SHTF better get used to it, it will be the new lifestyle for those who will survive. :)

There was a woman who trained to climb Mt. Everest to prove that vegans can do anything meat-eaters can do. If you make the trek, you can see her corpse in the “Death Zone” above 26,000 feet, admittedly with a lot of non-vegans.

Your post intrigues me because I suffer from high cholesterol and was told it was genetic. I am on medicine for it and it keeps it under control.

I am an open minded person though and would love to know more about the subject if there’s any information on it. I have research high cholesterol and never came across any theories such as yours so any informational replies are appreciated. Good day sir.

Christ Himself made sure the crowd was fed with loaves of bread AND fishes.

Ever ask yourself where the fishes were before they showed up in the baskets?
