An Arizona woman who went to Walmart for an oil change claims she ended up with a blown up car instead.
Nikki Smith says she narrowly escaped with her life when her Jeep went up in a ball of flames at the Walmart Auto Center in Phoenix — and it was just by the Grace of God she didn't have her three-year-old daughter strapped in there at the time, either.
Smith told TooFab she brought the car to the supercenter on Sunday for a routine oil change.(snip)
"After I took my car to Walmart I started noticing that my car was driving funny and acting as if it did not want to drive," she said. "Then I noticed fluid leaking from my grill."
She claims after lifting up the hood, she discovered the oil cap had not been replaced, and had leaked all over the engine. She says Walmart agreed to take the car back, give it another oil change, and clean up the mess.
According to Smith, they even told her the employee responsible had been fired, and that the next oil change was on the house.
But after she left the premises, she says the car still didn't feel right.
"I had numerous service lights on on my car that I'd never had before, my car had also began smoking, and was not accelerating over 20mph," she claims.(snip)
Smith claims two minutes after parking and walking into the manager's office, a worker ran in after her to inform them there was smoke billowing from the car. She says by the time they got outside, the car was in flames, before ultimately exploding.

Mine was a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and they screwed it up around 2000, so it was hardly an antique or an exotic.
That aint extra.
LOL!
Walmart will buy her a new car. End of story.
What they did was clean the thing up and never checked the oil.
“Its done boys, send it out!”
I had a muffler shop set my car on fire. Funny because I was riding with my parents and when we were heading up the road, I saw smoke back where the muffler shop was and I joked about it being my car. Went back to the shop when it was supposed to be done and there was water dripping from it where they put the fire out with a water hose. Guy said he was popping a hole in the floor to be able to put a screw in for an exhaust hanger. He used a torch which set the back seat on fire. 1971 Nova I had been restoring, burned the nice back seat and new cloth headliner, carpet etc. Ins company gave me $800 and I kept the car.
About 46 years ago, a Piper tri-pacer (115 kt cruise) was able to keep up with a Cessna 310K (193 kt cruise).
I had flown my dad in the TP from the farm to Moline, Il to get the 310. He checked it over and asked the flight line kid to put a quart in the rt engine. We both took off: me first, with a few minute lead. When he caught up, he suddenly slowed up. I then noticed the rt engine was shut down. I had no problem keeping up with the 310. We set down at the local county aerodrome.
My best friend was riding rt seat in the 310 and saw oil streaks forming on the rt cowling. The line kid had left the filler cap off. Clean up time. Thankfully there was no fire. And the oil level showed it was only down a quart and a half. A night flight might have been the end of that engine, or worse... a fire.
LOL! Now that was...
Of course that was in Michigan your state may vary.
lack of professionalism at Walmart.

seems to be somewhat of an understatement ...
I had a car that I sold myself. Some guys came over to look at it. They raised the hood and took off the oil filler cap and asked me to start it which I did. Messed up one guy’s white shirt pretty bad.
Years ago, we were returning from a family vacation, but had to stop at a garage for something. The guy had the hood up and all of us were looking at what he was doing. When he finished, we got back in the car and started driving away. My youngest son -— about 6 years old at the time said “He didn’t put the cap back on.” HUH? My husband and I and our 3 older kids AND the garage worker didn’t notice????
So they mess her car up, charge her for it, then literally burn her car to the ground and she’s supposed to be calm, cool, and collected about it?
What planet are you from? I’d be pretty angry about that too.
I had an oil change done at a Nissan dealer. First change on a new Murano. Tech didn’t tighten oil drain bolt and it leaked a quart by time I got home. They fixed it and car was fine, I later sold it with 115k on it.
It can happen anywhere.
I just replaced a converter on a car I sold for 3995 2 days after they bought it for free (to them of course, I went in to my pocket)
why? it’s the right thing to do. I drove the car about 100 miles but my style of driving must not have been right for the car to complete the test, and the new owners was.
About a week later I sold 2 more cars to his neighbor for his kids. that repair paid me back more than I could ever get through spending the same amount on advertising.
then there is the welfare case that called demanding I replace the car because “there’s a hole in the transmission!!!!” she had had the car for 4 months with not a peep from her.
I said “send me a photo” photo was clear, she hit something. I said I’ll help you with a fair price on the repair but you really should turn that over to insurance (it was one of my higher priced cars and she got a loan) I never heard from her again.
the bank is trying to sell the car back to me with a bad transmission though.
I mean you remove the cap, put in oil then replace the cap then and there; look before closing to ensure the cap is in place. What’s so hard about that?
Yeah, no excuse for screwing up a vehicle like that. I have an older BMW with a canister type oil filter that I’m wary of taking to an oil change place.
Dad let his guard down. Pilot pre trip failure. I remember us standing there talking while the kid dumped in the oil. If there hadn’t been a problem I likely wouldn’t have remembered anything much, except getting badly outrun going back to the farm.
She says she called Walmart again and this time they told her to go to an Auto Zone for a full diagnostic, and to bring the car back. She claims she was told they would fix the lot, pay for the repairs, and put her in a rental. She says by the time she made it back however, the Walmart Auto Center was closed, and she was forced to take the half-crippled car home and come back first thing in the morning,
I was looking for a c ar for my teenage son to use at college. One car I test drove was as quiet as a mouse, but after twenty or so miles, I returned it with smoke coming from under the hood. When the hood was lifted, the smoke was coming out around the head gasket. Removed the cover and found a T-shirt sitting on top of the rocker arms. After removing the t-SHIRT THE ENGINE DID NOT RUN QUIETLY ...
Did they charge her for leaving the mess in the Parking lot?
Jiffy Lube just did this exact same thing to my wife’s Jeep Last Week, They left the CAP OFF! Oil everywhere, smoke and then the Belt Fried. Will put the belt on today
Walmart doesn’t hire bright auto techs. I bought tires there once. I know.
“As someone who has unintentionally started four car fires”
Just exactly what incriminating information do you have on Hillary?
