I bought a Jeep at a stealership and the Check Engine light came on very soon after I bought. It was from NC where they have emissions testing (we don’t). The catalytic converter was shot. They had reset the check engine light. I just ignored it. Many years later, I went to the beach with some friends, she drove it for the first time and traded it. When I asked why, she said the “Trade Car” light was on.

Had a car I was still paying for - Aetna hadn’t been charging me for comprehensive and sent me a letter saying they were now going to start charging me the difference.

A week after I sent them the first check with the revised coverage I got hit...

If you go in there fussin' and cussin' "Y'all blew up my car ya bunch a turd wads!" it might lower the odds of them treating you gracefully.

Consider: It might be hard to maintain normal levels of composure under those conditions.

In my state, you have a loan, you have full coverage. something doesn’t smell right.

It's been said here in New Mexico that upwards of 40% of drivers have either no insurance, or are under-insured. Even on new cars, they'll get the note, then drop the coverage. Then they'll get a notice from the note-toter that they need to provide proof of insurance. You'd think after doing this once or twice, they'd claim breach of contract for the note, and recover the car, but nope. Hell, I got a letter from the Motor Vehicle Division years ago saying they had no proof of insurance for my registered vehicle. Turns out the insurance company was supposed to report the data but failed to.

Never one time did he apologize to me for this heartbreaking issue or even offer any help,” she said. “

yeah he figured since the car in question was now burned to cinders he was in the clear.

A competent attorney would’ve told her that on initial conversation, “Pffft! You’re insured; you don’t need me. Phone your agent, report a total loss, take the temporary rental car benefit until your payout comes through, then you go buy another Jeep and let your insurance company’s legal team go toe-to-toe with WalMart.

And, no, there’s no million dollar case, here; that’s Hollywood, not Reality.

Take it up with your insurance and get on with your life.

Now, lessee — three minutes, that’ll be $20; my Receptionist will take care of you. Thanks for stopping by to ask about this, I hope your insurance company works everything out for you.”

Walmart is okay for stuff but not their auto service people/managers. I did however receive money to have my engine compartment cleaned.

When you drop your vehicle off at any car repair biz, when you get there take pics of the front, rear, both sides, the interior and the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Then ask the service writer for a damage check list, do a walk around the vehicle and document any existing damage to the vehicle.

Do not trust the people who are in this business.

I bought a used truck from an out of state dealer. Researching the vehicle on line, looking at the various photos and talking to the salesman who said there were no problems he knew of with the vehicle. I bought it and had it delivered.

I replaced alternator, shocks, water pump, mufflers, catalytic converters and a host of other things. The parts were failed or about to. I was happy to replace the failed torque converter and put in a performance part.

The salesman called me sheepishly one day asking how the truck was running. I told him it was running great. He was befuddled and started to ask what about the... and caught himself. He did some stuttering and after some small talk we ended the conversation.

One lesson my father taught me when I was about 16: When it comes to car repairs, its better pay a little more and make sure it is done right.

I would only risk going to one of those oil change places if my vehicle were something extremely common, like say a late model Honda Civic. Those are routine enough that they probably wouldn’t screw it up. But anything older or out of the ordinary...no way.

If she had comprehensive insurance on it you could be damn sure the insurance company would go after Wally world to pay.

My husband had a maintenance check done on his vehicle then picked me up to travel to a town that was quite a distance from where we lived.

On the way home the engine was running hot. Fortunately we managed to stop in the parking lot of an auto supply, looked under the hood and saw steam coming out of the transmission. No cap could be found. We waited until the engine cooled down and filled it with transmission fluid. I stuffed a facemask in the hole to keep the liquid from spurting out

The vehicle limped into our local dealership and the mechanics told us, “You’re in luck! We just found an extra cap laying around.” Go figure.

Fortunately the vehicle was OK.
