TEL AVIV - Israeli archeologists on Tuesday revealed dozens of recently-discovered fragments of biblical texts, known as the Dead Sea Scrolls, which build on a collection of ancient Jewish religious manuscripts that was first discovered 60 years ago.
Israel’s Antiquities Authorities said that the pieces of parchment feature lines of Greek text from the books of Zechariah and Nahum which have been radiocarbon dated to the 2nd century A.D.
The discovery is the result of a years-long Israeli excavation in the Judean Desert and are believed to belong to a set known as “The Cave of Horror,” named for the 40 human skeletons found during excavations in the 1960s. They bear a Greek rendition of the Twelve Minor Prophets.
The finding also included a cache of millenia-old rare coins, a 6,000 year-old skeleton of a child - likely female, mummified in a piece of cloth - and a large basket dating back 10,500 years, which specialists believe could be the oldest in the world.
“These finds are not just important to our own cultural heritage, but to that of the entire world,” said Avi Cohen, CEO of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, which was involved in the excavation.

History is absolutely racist.
Dang. That's old. Antediluvian, I presume.
This is going to be interesting.
PING
The Cave of Horror
Just based on the name, I suggest they begin filming of the new Indiana Jones movie there.
This seems like a version of finding a copy of Huckleberry Finn buried under Stonehinge. It will be interesting to see how the IAA sorts this out... Can baskets survive thousands of years? We're they originally purchased with Bitcoin?
Maybe it was a family heirloom
Impressive finds.
Ah... an 8500+ year old family; probably the Smith's.
It belonged to gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-grandma. She was a great old gal, well respected and remembered.
Was it full of dirty laundry?.................
Thanks all.

I wish I knew how to read all that stuff...
Thanks for the ping, as usual, SC.

Cain’s little sister—she saw too much.
My pleasure. It's amusing that the cave has been used by humans for over 10000 years, must be easy to find, yet it took 60 years to notice it had Dead Sea Scrolls. ;^)
All caves look the same, right? One man’s throne may be another’s treasure chest.

Bottom line, just because somebody is your sibling doesn’t give you license to annoy them seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Kinship buys only so much immunity from prosecution.
“Oh, hey God, um...you were asking where my gender-reasdigned brother was...well...umm...do you promise not to get mad if I tell you I finally found him?”
“and a large basket dating back 10,500 years...”
Jericho takeaway, family size.
