In the early 20th century, the German biochemist Otto Warburg believed that tumors could be treated by disrupting their source of energy. His idea was dismissed for decades until now... Theodor Boveri discovered that if he fertilized sea-urchin eggs with two sperm rather than one, some of the cells would end up with the wrong number of chromosomes and fail to develop properly....Boveri was aware that cancer cells, had abnormal chromosomes; whatever caused cancer, had something to do with chromosomes.
... Otto Warburg's... research, was hailed as a major breakthrough in our understanding of cancer..... Warburg was focused on energy, specifically on how the eggs fueled their growth. Warburg knew that sea-urchin eggs increased their oxygen consumption significantly as they grew, so he expected to see a similar need for extra oxygen in the rat tumor. Instead, the cancer cells fueled their growth by swallowing up enormous amounts of glucose (blood sugar) and breaking it down without oxygen.
The result made no sense. Oxygen-fueled reactions are a much more efficient way of turning food into energy, ... Warburg tested additional tumors from humans and he saw the same effect. The cancer cells were ravenous for glucose..... Warburgs discovery -the Warburg effect, is estimated to occur in up to 80 percent of cancers. It is so fundamental that a positron emission tomography (PET) scan, which has emerged as an important tool in the staging and diagnosis of cancer, works simply by revealing the places in the body where cells are consuming extra glucose. In many cases, the more glucose a tumor consumes, the worse a patients prognosis. I think theres no doubt that insulin is pro-cancer, Watson says, with respect to the link between obesity, diabetes and cancer. Its as good a hypothesis as we have now.

But hey, our loving govt has tole us not to take what The Creator Gave us because it's evil.

Perhaps this is why a major cause of death in centuries prior to the Twentieth was attributed to a condition referred to as consumption.
_______________
Consumption was the old name for TB. A disease that consumes the patient.
Carefully regulated fasting, "intermittent fasting" has long been known to slow, and in some case halt certain cancers. It's strongly associated with longevity in general. Older adults, I've heard in said, continue to grow older (all other things being accounted for) safely cutting their daily calorie intake by half.
Recently I heard read of a "study" linking carefully planned "intermittent fasting" with stimulating one's adult stem cells to repair tissue.
Is it starve a cold, feed a fever?

There might be some application in pre cancer, as we’re told cancer cells are formed in our body all the time, and perhaps, fasting, and being lean cleans you, but to fast when you have cancer is absurd, the cancer devours you.
OTOH, some cancers do respond to this, for example prostate cancer stage one
Are you saying that the sugary food consumption decreases with ‘the munchies.’
I think the poster may have meant to say ‘conspicuous consumption’, as in pigging out, not TB ‘consumption.’
Could lowering sugar consumption while fighting cancer be effective?
Purely anecdotal, but I have two friends that are cancer survivors and spoke about the correlation between sugar and cancer. Both have become leaner people that ditched sugary products and the simple carb life.
“Perhaps this is why cannabis is effective against cancer? The munchies = lowered blood sugar = less food for the cancer.”
Wouldn’t the munchies (usually junk food) provide more sugar to feed the cancer?
I would think so. Sugar I am sure alters your immune system. Sugar is probably the worst thing for our bodies the worst.
I spend a half day per week in a wound care clinic. Over 60 % are type II Adult onset diabetes. Of those, more than 50% already have an amputation. The prognosis of which leaves 50% them dead within 4 years. Worse than breast cancer, and this is a preventable disease.
When one gets their blood drawn for labs, they tell you to fast after midnight. That’s nonsense. You should not eat anything for 16 hours and THEN get you labs. If you blood sugar is out of whack after 16 hours it’s a pretty good indication that you have heart disease and other things going on.
Secondly, look at the obesity in America, it’s obscene, totally obscene.
Don’t get me wrong, we all get that craving for a piece of chocolate or dessert or a donut, you suffer for it.
Soda is the worst of all. I read somewhere that a can of coke has 12 tsps. of sugar in it? I can’t believe that’s true.
“was attributed to a condition referred to as consumption.
I thought that was TB?
I agree whole heartedly. And there are so many hidden sugars in a plethora of products. Only drink club soda- flavored. It is really sad to see the generations of children arriving to adulthood with obesity and diabetes.
Atkins was correct regarding sugar and the strong correlation between its consumption and cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
We need to get back to basics:
Only eat what you can kill/grill or pick/eat = meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, berries, nuts.
Do we need anything else to be healthy?
Consumption was TB.
The problem, as always, has been how rapidly cancer cells ‘adapt’ to environmental changes. Block blood vessel growth and starve them of oxygen - they switch to anaerobic metabolism, and under the low oxygen conditions there are molecular changes that eventually favor a switch to a more aggressive malignant cell type. Block glucose metabolism and they will switch to another fuel type, eventually. Further, it’s always very hard to target anything that doesn’t have the same bad effect on other normal cells in the body.
Not saying this approach isn’t viable. Just that it is only another bullet in the arsenal against cancer, and often it takes many different bullets to eradicate or at least control a malignancy.
I think the other myth is the whole grains breads. I think these may be really bad for you, in fact let’s face it bread after 6pm sticks with you.
I like the Mediterranean diet. It let’s you eat fat, and wine...so you don’t have to cheat.
fascinating. It makes sense that a rapidly generating cancerous mass would require significantly more energy than a normal group of cells that are multiplying at a normal rate and that the effects of cellular starvation would be more harmful to cells undergoing accelerated division than to normal cells. Interesting that insulin appears to be pro-cancerous in this regards as it would make sense that a chronic hypoglycemia induced by insulin injections would be an impediment to cancerous growth.
