NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The impact of statin therapy on mortality in patients with decompensated heart failure is limited to those who have ischemic heart disease, say researchers from Israel.

Dr. Roman Nevzorov and colleagues from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva analyzed 1-year mortality rates in 887 patients hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure.

..."The clinical question is whether a statin should be prescribed to every patient with heart failure," the investigators say. "Based on the recent randomized trials and results of our analysis the answer is probably no in the case of heart failure of non-ischemic origin." Excerpted.

Statins make me feel like I’ve been hit in the small of my back with a baseball bat. Won’t take them.

Dr. now wants me to take fenofibric acid (Trilipix), I’ve filled the scrip, but refuse to take it after reading what IT can do to your kidneys.

Anyone have any thoughts on fenofibrates?

Are you being prescribed statins & fenofibrates for high cholesterol? If so, I have a little trick. I drink a SuperShot by Promise Activ with or immediately after a fatty meal once or twice a day. Its nothing more than plant sterols. It’s in the yogurt section at the grocery store. My total cholesterol was above 270 and is now at 200. I like eating nuts and read where eating a handful of nuts before a fatty meal will lower cholesterol, too. Google SuperShots by Promise for more info.

You might want to find out more about lecithin.

Lecithin is a natural phopholipid that tens to emulsify fats. People use it to try to keep their arteries squeaky clean.

Good call. I take a scrumptious orange flavored lecithin-CoQ10 tablet daily. An excellent combination for PA fitness.

I’ve been upclose and personal with cause-unknown renal failure, (not mine).

I also have a double kidney......I take no chances in that regard.

I take one or two tablespoons a day, usually mixed in with a yogurt cup. My family has a pretty high incidence of heart problems.

My husband has been prescribed statins for several years and he is under 40. He took them for awhile but had problems with muscle pain.

It doesn't break my heart that he cannot take them. We'll look into lecithin.

STATINS can, under certain circumstances, destroy your health.

Statins are made from toxins (poisons) given off by fungi. Under certain circumstances, they can destroy mitochondria, the part of cells which turn sugar into energy.

If they are prescribed in excess, and damage mitochondria, blood sugar can rise dramatically. Taking CoQ10 is strongly suggested, if you must use statins.
