Vinegar is a fat buster

The vinegar used to garnish salad dressings, pickles and other foods, may live up to its folk reputation as a fat buster and health promoter.
Japanese researchers Tomoo Kondo and colleagues noted that vinegar has also been used as a folk medicine since ancient times, for a range of illnesses.
Modern research suggests that acetic acid, the main component of vinegar, may help control blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and fat accumulation.
Their new study showed that lab mice fed a high-fat diet and given acetic acid developed significantly less body fat (up to 10 percent less) than other mice, said an American Chemical Society (ACS) release.
Importantly, the new research bolsters evidence that acetic acid fights fat by turning on genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes.
The genes churn out proteins involved in breaking down fats, thus suppressing body fat accumulation in the body.
These findings were published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Saw an article on Readers' Digest a month or so ago, were they mentioned vinegar's acetic acid interfering with the mechanism by which glucose enters the bloodstream from the digestive system. If anyone has more info on this, please share!

Alcohol is a solvent therefore drinking copious amounts of vodka gimlets or your favorite adult beverage should clean out your arteries ...

You’ll eat less cake if you pour a bottle of vinegar into the mix...
But yes, vinegar does have some healthy properties.

Some vinegars have sugar in them...although I love the golden balsamic. My kids always drink some vinegar by the spoonfuls.

I have been taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water each evening, and my heartburn/acid reflux has been near non existent. I bet the makers of Nexxum, Prilosec, Pepcid and those other acid blockers that sell for $120 for a month’s supply aren’t too happy.

Drink it straight / undiluted? Isn’t that a bit corrosive to the throat?

Google Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. I seem to remember their website sheds some light on the medicinal benefits of vinegar. A gallon of the stuff lasts a pretty good while.

Apple Cider Vinegar...A gallon of the stuff lasts a pretty good while. Not during the summer BBQ'ing season. Not so much with beef, but doing up pork bbq on a smoker, and you can really go through that stuff!

I remember my great-granny used to drink pickle juice when she had indigestion. Now that I am in full pickle-making mode, I realize that she was taking vinegar.

From what I read ‘alcohol’ and since that’s in beer... Actually beer is healthier because of all the grains in it plus protein. I read in history where mother’s would feed it to their babies in German occupied Paris during WWII because food was so hard to get but for some reason beer wasn’t .....
