I have been taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water each evening, and my heartburn/acid reflux has been near non existent. I bet the makers of Nexxum, Prilosec, Pepcid and those other acid blockers that sell for $120 for a month’s supply aren’t too happy.
I remember my great-granny used to drink pickle juice when she had indigestion. Now that I am in full pickle-making mode, I realize that she was taking vinegar.
Ironic, isn’t it? I read somewhere that taking vinegar helps heartburn by boosting the acidity in the stomach, which causes the sphincter at the base of the esophagus to constrict, which prevents further reflux. Makes sense to me.
