Happy April Fool's Day Verbs

I saw a cowslip through the fence,
A horsefly in the store,
I saw a boardwalk up the street,
A stone step by a door.
I saw a mill race up the road,
A daybreak through the gloom.
I saw a nightfall on my lawn,
A clock run in the room.
I saw a peanut stand up high,
A sardine box in town,
A bedspring at the garden gate,
An inkstand on the ground.
You don't believe all this, do you?
For not a single thing is true.
It's just a silly way to say,
"Happy April Fool's Day!"

The first of April is the day we remember
what we are the other 364 days of the year.

First Day of April

On the first day of April if someone should say,
"I'll give you a monster, a basket of hay,
a ride in a rocket, and ten games to play,"
just laugh and remember...
It's APRIL FOOL'S DAY!

FAMILY PLANNING

Bad Penny's given up the Grocery Bag Castle.
In search of a place offering far fewer hassles.
Someplace secluded and off the beaten path
Out of sight and mind.
Immune to Amy's wrath.

Behind the couch or a closet's corner would be fine.
A late night meander has given up a dish towel
And a quilted Oven Mitt.

Though I doubt that Amy will have a fit.
Since the Mitt will fit the newborn kittens
Like a glove!

In Their Hands

Their daily jobs are risky,
But it is what they do.
They risk their lives for others,
Protecting me and you.
They fight fires and they fight crooks,
They fight our foreign foes.
When no fight is going on,
They still stay on their toes.
They train and wait, wait and train,
Praying they won’t need it.
But danger always rears its head,
Then they go defeat it.
A simpler life, they could lead,
But that’s not in their plans.
Freedom’s future one could say,
Is resting in their hands.

April Fool's Day.

I always remember that it was April Fool's Day 1991
when I bought my first home computer.

Broken Things

Read:
Psalm 31:9-24

I am like a broken vessel. —Psalm 31:12

Bible In One Year: 1 Samuel 21-24

cover Few unbroken lives in this world are useful to God. Few men and women can fulfill their hopes and plans without some interruption and disappointment along the way.

But man's disappointments are often God's appointments, and the things we believe are tragedies may be the very opportunities through which God chooses to exhibit His love and grace. We have but to follow these lives to the end to see that people who have been broken become better and more effective Christians than if they had carried out all their own plans and purposes.

Are you, my friend, being broken today? Has the dearest thing in your life been torn away? Then remember that if you could see the purpose of it all from God's standpoint, you would praise the Lord.

The best things that come to us are not those that accrue from having our way, but by letting God have His way. Though the way of testing and trial and sorrow often seems hard and cruel, it is the way of God's love and in the end will be the best for us.

Remember, we have the Lord's promise: "No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly" (Psalm 84:11). —M. R. De Haan, M.D.

Then trust in God through all thy days;
Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand;
Though dark thy way, still sing and praise,
Sometime, sometime, we'll understand. —Cornelius

For a Christian, wholeness always comes after brokenness.

A FIREFIGHTER'S PRAYER
When I am called to duty, God
Whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age,
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert and
Hear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor and
Protect his property
And if according to my fate
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your
protecting hand
My children and my wife.
