A brief poem I wrote a while ago -
I have walked many lonely winter nights,
The darkness punctuated by the lamplight
And I've contemplated where I've been,
And what I've done and what I've seen
What bridges I've crossed and the ones I've burned
And how many times I've seen my fortunes turn
How much suffering and joy I've lived through
And how my greatest joy has been loving you.
I find my day is often much like the night:
I navigate in darkness with few spots of light
And often find that my bittersweet memories
Are all there is to comfort me
There is no one now to walk by my side
No one in whom I can confide
No one for whom I fight for to the last
And I am left to wonder if my best days have passed.
But still love endures and it grows
And like the lamplights it still glows
Like starlight, it's there for me to steer by.
But unlike the stars, it will never die.
So my love, call me a sentimental fool -
For it's not my head, but my heart that rules
And that heart only longs to say -
To the time of my ruin or my redeeming day
I will love you with all that I have to give
I will love you as long as I live.
