Graphic by MamaBear

Winter in the Boulevard
D.H. Lawrence (1885–1930)

THE FROST has settled down upon the trees
And ruthlessly strangled off the fantasies
Of leaves that have gone unnoticed, swept like old
Romantic stories now no more to be told.

The trees down the boulevard stand naked in thought,
Their abundant summery wordage silenced, caught
In the grim undertow; naked the trees confront
Implacable winter’s long, cross-questioning brunt.

Has some hand balanced more leaves in the depths of the twigs?
Some dim little efforts placed in the threads of the birch?—
It is only the sparrows, like dead black leaves on the sprigs,
Sitting huddled against the cerulean, one flesh with their perch.

The clear, cold sky coldly bethinks itself.
Like vivid thought the air spins bright, and all
Trees, birds, and earth, arrested in the after-thought
Awaiting the sentence out from the welkin brought.

Brrrrr! That frosty tree graphic makes me feel cold.

Reminds me of some of the names of long-gone relatives of Mrs.d. The surname was Frost from Frost Bottom, Tennessee.
There were 19 children in the family. Some of the boy's names through the generations... Sevier, Winter, Snow, Earle, Hardy Late and of course, Jack.

The graphic is beautiful, isn't it? I think I'll stay in cold, damp California.

Winter Frost and Jack Frost from Frost Bottom? LOL At least they had a great sense of humor.

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and stay dry today.

Thanks Amy. I thought I'd better try some winter sports since it looks like DH is very interested in the job in Colorado Springs AND the company is interested in him. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I still don't want to move. *sniff* *sniff* But I will, if I have to. No interview yet, but he got another call from the HR lady today, so I expect it soon.

A young man at a New Year’s party turns to his friend and asks for a cigarette.

'I thought you made a New Year’s resolution to quit smoking,' his friend says.

'I'm in the process of quitting,' the man says.
'Right now, I am in the middle of phase one.'

'What's phase one?'

'I've quit buying.'

Well .... at least you will be closer to sunny California. :)

Colorado Springs is a beautiful area. I think you will like it after a few months, but I hope you are learning to ski and snowboard. :)

Thanks Amy. My main reason for not wanting to move is because my son is in school in South Georgia and the rest of my family is all near here.

Colorado is a beautiful place. I visited the Air Force Academy eons ago and loved the area. I lived in Utah - on the other side of the Rockies - and enjoyed snow skiing and hiking in the mountains, so I suppose I'd enjoy living in Colorado too. But it's just so dang far from my son and other family members in Georgia - and my daughter in Indiana.

BUT, hubby's brother and new wife and kids live in Colorado Springs, so we'd have some family nearby. That would be nice. And, there are some travel benefits associated with this job and the salary is good so I wouldn't "have" to work so I'd have opportunities to fly off to be with my family. I'm trying to maintain a good attitude, but I really, really don't want to move. But, it's looking more and more like that's going to happen. If not to Colorado, then it'll be Ohio, Kansas, Tennessee, Indiana, or somewhere.

Speaking of "sunny"...

Did you know Colorado has more sunny days than Georgia? That's good! But it's about 20 degrees colder there too. Not good -- except when I'm having 'power surges'... hahahaha

Winter's Roads
by Ron Carnell

I cannot speak for all who stem
'Long roads less traveled as their way,
Nor question choices made by them
In days long past or nights long dim
by words they spoke and did not say.

Each road is long, though short it seems,
And credence gives each road a name
Of fantasies sun-drenched in beams
Or choices turned to darkened dreams,
To where each road wends just the same.

From North to South, then back again,
I followed birds like all the rest
Escaping nature's snowy den
On roads I've seen and places been,
Forsaking roads that traveled West.

This journey grows now to its end,
As road reflections lined in chrome
Give way to roads with greater bend
And empty signs that still pretend
They point the way to home sweet home.

But all roads lead to where we go
And where we go is where we've been,
So home is just a word we know,
That space in time most apropos
For where we want to be again.

For even home, it seems to me,
Is still a choice we all must face
From day to day and endlessly,
To choose if home is going to be
Another road - or just a place.
