you are returning to active duty? Does this mean that we will see less of you around here? When does this take place?

Oh, no, Amy, not at all!I'm going back on active orders for 12 months - as a Recruiter!

They wanted someone who's been in for a long time and a little bit long in the tooth (and that's ME all over), instead of a kid with one tour under his belt.

Anyway, it's all local, home every night, visiting places all over the state, lots of travel and people to meet.

And FReeping as well!

Hearts

The human heart is hollow,
It’s really built that way.
Connected to some tubing,
Attachments, as they say.

Enfolding things to squeeze them,
And send them on their way,
The heart embraces lots of things,
But collects so little pay.

Some things seem to stick there,
The pain, and hurt, and loss.
Just put the squeeze on for yourself,
And give those things a toss.

As big as any heart may be,
There’s only so much room,
So if you would perform your best,
Be ready with the broom.

To sweep away the cobwebs,
Of broken dreams and such,
That’s why the best hearts always,
Seem to need a woman’s touch.

Dreams always lead a fragile life,
Like butterflies of glass,
They often are the first to fall,
As clumsy actions pass.

Don’t leave the broken shards around,
Destroy them if you must,
A little bit of anger spent,
Will turn them into dust.

As such, they will not hurt you,
Dispose of them at will,
Don’t leave your broken dreams,
On your heart’s windowsill.

Go out and gather new ones,
Fresh flowers for your vase,
And while you’re dressing, please put on,
A bright and shining face.

Your heart may still be hollow,
The pump that fills your cup,
What matters is what you put in it,
Not when you fill it up.

Your heart is swimming up a stream,
With tireless even tread,
Your goal is to complete the race,
Not to come out ahead.

At some point you will discover,
Companions much like you,
Because they were immersed in life,
They have been out of view.

These are the ones who are your friends,
Of various shapes and size,
They are the ones who fill your heart,
In time you’ll realize.

Whewwww .... had me worried there.

Sounds like you will be assigned to a duty that you will enjoy. Will you be visiting the high schools and colleges? I notice that the peacenics have been gathering at the recruiting offices in Fresno once a month. Let them know for me the the two finger "V" is for Victory, not peace, or peace after victory.

Sure glad that you will be able to continue FReeping. I always enjoy your poems so I hope you will continue writing them.

Have a beautiful day.

Actually, and unusually for me, I was recommending a rather drastic housecleaning procedure.

The pounding of the broken dreams into dust procedure.

I am reminded of the scene in "To Kill A Mockingbird" (both book and movie) that when Atticus Finch dropped his spectacles (in preparation to dispatch the rabid dog), he broke the lens.

Then he ground it into powder in the street with his heel.

He knew that it was now useless to him, and he didn't want anyone else to come to harm from the broken glass.

One of my favorite characters in literature.
