A Mother Is ...

A mother is a messenger, who bears a precious gift,
And even in the wrapping tissue we find some gems to sift.
The more we learn of life, the more we stop and stare,
For how can such a wondrous thing be conjured out of air?

A mother is a vessel, a type of cooking pot,
Whose love provides the warmth so that it doesn’t get too hot.
And she provides the nutrients, our flesh is of her soil,
And when the child is born it’s she who does the toil,

Of cleaning it, and feeding it, and teaching it to smile,
A small reward to mother for her efforts all the while.
A mother is a garden spot, where God instills a spark,
A holy flame to kindle for the world’s encroaching dark.

For every child’s a candle, sent to fill the world with light,
And mother is the shielded hand that saves it for the night.
A mother does the work of God in bringing forth a child,
And Godly patience helps her to prevent its running wild.

We recognize her efforts with some flowers and a card,
Oblivious to the challenges she faced, and it was hard,
To make a sterling citizen from the plans placed in her head,
She had to compromise a bit, ‘cause she got us instead.

Happy Mother’s Day

My tears, you’d dry if I was sad,

You kept me safe and warm.

My clothes you’d buy and dress me up,

But then came the alarm.

A little brother came along,

He ruined my happy life.

Jeff was a mess, a hopeless case,

He brought us so much strife.

I washed the dishes, helped you out,

We cleaned the muck and crud.

Jeff wandered ‘round the neighborhood,

On pianos he threw mud.

But we grew up because you cared,

And helped to give us hope.

Now I am grown and I am fine,

But Jeff, he’s still a dope.

As interpreted by David from Laura

GRANDMOTHER, WE HAVE A LOT TO THANK YOU FOR!

Thank you for the many ways
you've made our family strong --
For loving and encouraging,
for teaching right and wrong ...
For pictures that you've saved
that show the way things were 'back when,"
For challenges you've faced and worked through
time and time again ...

For all you've done to make us proud
of who we've come to be,
Your life has been your greatest present
to your family!!

Happy Mother's Day, Gramma

Thank you both and Happy Mother's day to all the Mothers on Free Republic.

There is no human more important than a Good Mother. The Best Father pales in Comparison to a Good Mother.

My Mom is in Ohio with my baby sister but we are going to see Laura's Mom. We will force her to look at herself on the World Wide Web.

Mothers and Daughters

We're daughters and mothers
Not so long ago.
We give and take
And take and give
Along time's endless row.
Love is passed
And love received
To be passed on again:
A precious heirloom
Twice, twice blessed,
A spiritual cardigan.

I'll put it on
And treasure it,
The me I have received,
And when the roles
Reverse again,
I'll have what I most need.

So may our love
Go on and on,
A hundred thousand years;
Mothers and daughters,
Daughters and mothers,
Through joys and other tears

Ode to the Elderly

Oh, I am just a little one.
I'm glad my life has just begun.
The fire of youth flows through my veins.
I don't have old folks' aches and pains.

Today I'm sad about old folks
And I've stopped telling old age jokes.
I've just found out it's hard to see
A relative that's elderly.

My mom is getting old and gray,
She had a birthday yesterday.
She may be old but still is purty,
For a woman who has lived to thirty.

In honor of Mother's Day I'm posting a couple of my kids' (now 15 and 17) baby pics.
I'd love to see some other FReeper baby pics!
My daughter's "mohawk" is natural and took about 8 mos to really flatten out. She earned the nickname "punk-rock baby" lol
The pic of my son (and me holding him) is when he was just a few days old. He had a big funny nose which he grew into and is now a handsome young man.

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Is The Hand That Rules The World

Blessings on the hand of women!
Angels guard its strength and grace,
In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;
Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Infancy's the tender fountain,
Power may with beauty flow,
Mother's first to guide the streamlets,
From them souls unresting grow--
Grow on for the good or evil,
Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Woman, how divine your mission
Here upon our natal sod!
Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
Always to the breath of God!
All true trophies of the ages
Are from mother-love impearled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

Blessings on the hand of women!
Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
And the sacred song is mingled
With the worship in the sky--
Mingles where no tempest darkens,
Rainbows evermore are hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
