Like the teeth themselves, under the right conditions the gunk on your teeth may survive not just thousands but millions of years in the grave. Isn't that good to know.
Advanced dental decay and plaque buildup have been detected in Dryopithecus carinthiacus, a primate that lived in Europe 12.5 million years ago, suggesting it doted on high-sugar fruit. Sivapithecus sivalensis, who lived between 9.3 to 8.7 million years ago in Pakistan, was also apparently frugivorous. Analysis of ancient plaque has shed light on the mobility of Neanderthals and other hominins, as implied by dietary changes, and shored up the thesis that they were super-predators.
In Neolithic modern humans, plaque analysis has shown that we domesticated and enjoyed eating the cow, sheep and goat hundreds and thousands of years before we began to exploit their milk, based on when milk-related proteins show up in the plaque...
In Ireland, researchers used plaque analysis to elucidate what 19th-century survivors of the Great Famine ate...
It's relatively trivial to deduce that ancients ate meat from remains of animal bones; not so much plants. So finding starch (for instance) in ancient calculus speaks volumes – somebody ate their veg. But non-diet debris in plaque were "unfairly" neglected in research, she says.
The mouth, according to Radini's approach, is a depositional environment, a diary of our existence. Reading that diary is done partly by isotopic analysis – and let's just say that carbon isotopes can tell us about the person's plant consumption while nitrogen isotopes reveal meat...
Dental calculus on the teeth of hominins living in Israel's Qesem Cave 400,000 years ago is the earliest known example of environmental pollution: soot from their fires, Prof. Ran Barkai and Prof. Avi Gopher of Tel Aviv University and colleagues reported in 2015.

The Neandertal Enigma"Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

Wow
You’ll wonder where the yellow went,
When you brush your teeth with Pepsodent!.............
He was a fruit eater. That’s not his ‘breath’............😜
Probably when times got tough they had to eat eucalyptis. “Mouthwash has to taste bad to work!”
“When there’s a plane crash, they always say that the victims had to be identified by their dental records. But if they don’t know who *you* are, how do they know who your *dentist* is?” — Robert Schimmel
They know who is ‘supposed’ to be on that aircraft by the passenger manifest.
If someone doesn’t match that person’s dental records, then they have a ‘problem’.................
there is a huge database for dental records now. We just don’t talk about it.
I suspect someone somewhere is *filling* in the blanks in those records even as we speak.
*ick*
They should have worn clean underwear, too.
In the near future, don't expect to get away with eating black-market hamburgers.
Don’t worry, long before that, you’ll probably gettin’ busted for using the microaggressive term “black market” in social media. ;^)
Oh ****, now I’ve used it too.
FReepers, imagine, blam and ‘Civ, discussing our next jailbreak plan in the prison yard.
