...cutting-edge DNA sequencing of more than 400 Viking skeletons from archaeological sites scattered across Europe and Greenland will rewrite the history books as it has shown:- Skeletons from famous Viking burial sites in Scotland were actually local people who could have taken on Viking identities and were buried as Vikings.
- Many Vikings actually had brown hair not blonde hair.
- Viking identity was not limited to people with Scandinavian genetic ancestry. The study shows the genetic history of Scandinavia was influenced by foreign genes from Asia and Southern Europe before the Viking Age.
- Early Viking Age raiding parties were an activity for locals and included close family members.
- The genetic legacy in the UK has left the population with up to six per cent Viking DNA.
The word Viking comes from the Scandinavian term ‘vikingr’ meaning ‘pirate’. The Viking Age generally refers to the period from A.D. 800, a few years after the earliest recorded raid, until the 1050s, a few years before the Norman Conquest of England in 1066... Leif Eriksson is believed to have been the first European to reach North America – 500 years before Christopher Columbus...
They analysed the DNA from the remains from a boat burial in Estonia and discovered four Viking brothers died the same day. The scientists have also revealed male skeletons from a Viking burial site in Orkney, Scotland, were not actually genetically Vikings despite being buried with swords and other Viking memorabilia...
The Picts were Celtic-speaking people who lived in what is today eastern and northern Scotland during the Late British Iron Age and Early Medieval periods...
The genetic legacy of the Viking Age lives on today with six per cent of people of the UK population predicted to have Viking DNA in their genes compared to 10 per cent in Sweden.

Watching “Viking Valhalla” on NETFLIX, now.
VERY GOOD, if you don’t mind grotesque violence, nudity, and sexual content.
There is no smoking though (except for smoking corpses).
Very good acting (by nobodies), good scripts, period clothing, great characters, semi-historical.

VERY GOOD, if you don't mind grotesque violence, nudity, and sexual content.

The present-day English name for York is derived from the Viking name for the place, but there was a town there in Roman times called Eboracum. The Roman emperor Constantius I died there in 306 and his son Constantine was proclaimed emperor there by his army immediately after Constantius died.
The Latin name for New York City is Novum Eboracum.

Well....considering that the term “viking” means to go out exploring and gathering wealth, I guess it’s not at all surprising. And, given that, then people who’s ancestors went a’viking ARE Vikings, or at least descended from Vikings.

Berserker means “bear shirt” and it is what those guys wore-a bearskin shirt/tunic-their battle lust/insanity was the result of them having consumed beer and hallucinogenic plants before battle-they were on the equivalent of a bad acid trip...

Most of the non-berserkers were family men-bringing sons who have come of age to raid/battle with them was custom just about everywhere at that time-training/a right of passage. Most vikings who went to sea were just as interested in profitable trading and a place to settle with a woman, have a family and make a living farming and trading somewhere warmer with more arable land than the Scandinavian countries they were from.
disclaimer-I have no viking or other northern European ancestry-My DNA is only from warmer Europe-the Spanish Pyrenees-with a bit of Native American tossed in somewhere in the the 16th-17th century-I just like to read and study the travels and habits of humans as far back as possible-it is amazing how smart and resourceful we have always been, in any environment...

“The Vikings were settled in on the British Isles.”
Tell me where I’m making a mistake:
Normandy was named after the Normans (North Men in English) who had settled there. The North Men were probably Vikings.
The Normans invaded England. Thus, Viking blood in England as well as Scotland. That explains my Viking blood given my Norman invader heritage.
That’s the assumption I have been making since getting a DNA analysis.

Thanks. I’ve seen those websites - would be interesting to visit some day. Pretty out of the way though!
Below is a short (10 min) youtube about French explorer Jacques Cartier in the St. Lawrence seaway (1500’s). The indians told stories of white men that were fearsome and had gold and silver (but no bronze??) that lived to the north. In the area of Quebec City and Montreal.
The Indians also had the same story of a “cypod” - one legged men that would hop on one leg and had an oversized foot. The Viking story of Vineland also speaks of these one-legged men in Vineland!? In the Middle Ages the one-legged man was big in artwork and stories as well.
