Reports newly released by the Naval Safety Center reveal more information on the bizarre encounters U.S. Navy pilots have had with unidentified flying objects off the east coast of the United States. Eight hazard reports filed with the center's web-based reporting system were acquired under the Freedom of Information Act by The Drive and detail strange run-ins that include a near mid-air collision with a balloon-like object and a sighting of a suitcase-sized aircraft. In one 2014 encounter, the Navy jet reported even being able to lock onto the object with an air-to-air missile.

I do not see locking an air-to-air missile on an alien craft is in the first contact protocol, hee hee.
Some pilots have said that “some” of the east coast sightings appear to be drones of some kind and quite different than what was encountered by the USS Nimitz in the San Diego area. Don’t have a source link for this.
The mystery of US Military reports continues.
I here I thought that flying suitcases were the province of Terry Pratchett novels about Anhkpomork and the Great Turtle that supports disc-world.
If you happen to fly in the near future, keep your eyes peeled for a flying suitcase. US military pilots cannot be wrong.
Good thing pilot didnt pull the trigger
I can see a movie script from this...Navy pilot accidently starts Intergalactic War...
True
Might want to take a close look at the systems and who wrote the software.
It means the sensor thought it was real, yes.
And if there is visual confirmation with the human eye, its obviously not a sensor problem, and that is generally required to permit locking of middles depending on ROE. But maybe not.
So there is probably a real object present, if point 2 above is correct.
If it bleeds we can kill it.
That would include if the being bleeds green blood or acid based blood??? :)
Any reason it’s always naval aviators ? These UFOs afraid of the USAF ?
*technically* if the MISSILE locked on (while still on the rail) then the object had a strong enough heat signature in the right wavelengths. (Sidewinder)
If the plane’s RADAR locked on then the object had enough effective surface area to return an RF echo. (AIM 7)
But yes. If one of the various weapons systems locked on, the object existed.
Perhaps the aliens are really Atlanteans. They only hang out in the oceanic areas.
YUP
Anyone can tell be reading the article it was a weather balloon with a packed bag on vacation. The fact there was a near collision just means the balloon had too much to drink.
Or.... these UFOs are the USAF :-)
Perhaps a signal of Top Gun was sent into space and the aliens became big fans.
