Report: Playboy Will No Longer Publish Nude Photos (Yes, you read that right)
NBC News ^ | Oct 13, 2015 | Reuters News Service

Founder and editor-in-chief Hugh Hefner, 89, who in his trademark silk pajamas has embodied the Playboy lifestyle, agreed last month with a suggestion by top editor Cory Jones to stop publishing images of naked women, the Times said.

At a time when every teenage boy has an Internet connected phone and the web is rife with pornography, the magazine has opted to continue featuring women in provocative poses, just not completely nude, the Times said.

"You're now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free," Flanders was quoted as saying in the Times. "And so it's just passe at this juncture."

The magazine that featured Marilyn Monroe on its debut cover in 1953 is making the changes after circulation dropped from 5.6 million in 1975 to about 800,000 now, the Times said.

After its initial success, the magazine was attacked from the political right because of the nudity and from the left by feminists who said it reduced women to sex objects.

Some changes are still under debate, including whether there will continue to be a centerfold. Playboy magazine's sex columnist will be a woman, who writes enthusiastically about sex, Jones told the Times.

The magazine has always had intellectual appeal with top writers such as Kurt Vonnegut, Joyce Carol Oates, Vladimir Nabokov, James Baldwin and Alex Haley for men who liked to say they did not buy the magazine just for the pictures.

We couldn’t afford National Geographic.
It was Sears Roebuck or nothing.

The height of educational literature delivered to our house was a bi monthly farm journal.
Nothing sexy there

First eggs were going to kill me, then it was butter, then bacon.
Suddenly it sneaks out our dear govt was wrong about the eggs, so I assume they screwed the pooch on the butter as well. No way are they getting their hands on my bacon!

Now they tell me I have to respect and make allowances for homosexuals, muslims and other mentally deficient people.
Wonder if the country will last long enough for the govt to realize they were wrong about all of that?

All things great and small are now under the govt thumb.

Most days I just want someone to stop the world and let me off.

That is my preference, as well.

Used to read Iron Horse and Outlaw Biker as well but can’t seem to fine either of them locally, since Borders closed down.

Well, if "National Geographic" can stop focusing on geography in favor of left wing nonsense....

Next up "Reader's Digest" will stop featuring words.

Our schools were big on having us quislings sell mag subscriptions to raise money....that’s the only reason why we might have had them at home.

Hugh Hefner outlived his magazine.

Yep.

Wait until they come out with a “healthy at any size” issue. It was born from Hefner and will die with Hefner.

>>>Playboy centerfolds haven’t had staples since 1985<<<

Wow, I am getting old. Haven’t see a Playboy in Decades.

I guess nowadays the pages are held together with some sort of sticky substance.

I doubt it will be enough to save them. Print media is on the way out no matter how you look at it.

So is reading, period.

I work at a school library. Hardly anyone looks through the magazines. They'll read books only for a class. Otherwise, they're on their laptops or smartphones, downloading FB or Netflix -- anything but a book or article.

So what is the point of PB? Is it really viable? Yes I remember PB's excellent editorial content. My dad enjoyed the articles (also the, ahem, "other stuff"-- let's not kid ourselves!). But nobody under 30 seems to read anymore.

So now people WILL actually buy it for the articles.

I have to wonder what their advertisers will do?

The logo is. The Playboy rabbit head is one of the most iconic and recognizable logos ever created. Perhaps once it is no longer associated with a nudie mag, it could become even more valuable.

A friend of mine took a photo of his girlfriend on his bike and submitted it to Easy Rider. Don’t know if it got published.

I have not picked up a copy in years.

They went from classic bikes to the OCC style stuff and I’m not interested in Trailer Queen bikes.

I like stuff that can be *ridden*.

Other mags are currently showing lots of old school bobbers [which I love] so I gawk at them, instead.

:)
