Founder and editor-in-chief Hugh Hefner, 89, who in his trademark silk pajamas has embodied the Playboy lifestyle, agreed last month with a suggestion by top editor Cory Jones to stop publishing images of naked women, the Times said.
At a time when every teenage boy has an Internet connected phone and the web is rife with pornography, the magazine has opted to continue featuring women in provocative poses, just not completely nude, the Times said.
"You're now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free," Flanders was quoted as saying in the Times. "And so it's just passe at this juncture."
The magazine that featured Marilyn Monroe on its debut cover in 1953 is making the changes after circulation dropped from 5.6 million in 1975 to about 800,000 now, the Times said.
After its initial success, the magazine was attacked from the political right because of the nudity and from the left by feminists who said it reduced women to sex objects.
Some changes are still under debate, including whether there will continue to be a centerfold. Playboy magazine's sex columnist will be a woman, who writes enthusiastically about sex, Jones told the Times.
The magazine has always had intellectual appeal with top writers such as Kurt Vonnegut, Joyce Carol Oates, Vladimir Nabokov, James Baldwin and Alex Haley for men who liked to say they did not buy the magazine just for the pictures.

But but but....as our dear reader is so fond of saying....it’s only fair that everyone has the same level of opportunity. What about those poor, deep in the country persons who are not electronically capable of viewing any item that might be found in cyber space. The only way they are introduced to anything would be over the counter or by mail. A tasteless magazine which has seen its day come and go. The art is so unimportant unless it is seen by an eye of a professional. Like everything, we cast aside the old to provide the way of ‘better’ How many times has that been said? Like the Sears and Roebuck catalog...the times they are a’changing.
She looked a lot better back then and wasn’t an outspoken political leftist hack...
I have a few old Playboys from the 70s. My favorite was the girls of the 1972 Olympics. That was a beautiful pictorial and they were natural and wholesome looking, as well as sexy. I wonder how those German women are doing today.
They have pics of naked women in there? I thought it was all just articles!
So now it is just a leftist rag like some British newspapers minus the pictures.
Double bump to “study” later.
One of the most common complaints about Easy Rider’s photos is guys griping that the obligatory scantily clad chick draped over the bike is obscuring their view of the paint and motor.
True story.
:)
Have they published nude or semi-nude photos of Bruce Jenner or some other tranny, or tranny-wannabe? If not, you know they, Hustler, or Penthouse, eventually will.
Those catalogs were mighty handy in the day. Old ones were kept in the outhouse. You can't tear off a web page and finish your business...
I must confess, I have made that same gripe.
The Sears and Roebuck catalogue, the porn of my youth.
Make your way through the womens dresses, blouses and skirts.
Linger over the cashmere sweaters until.....Nirvana!
The Ladies Panties and Brasseriers!
How much could a poor young country lad take!
Ahh, the good old days.
Back when the most a young fella was likely to see of a womans body was a shapely calf.
Strange how the ladies undergarment section was the last to be disposed of in our two seater outhouse.
Heh.
We'll find out if they're lying if the mag goes from 800,000 to 10.
The destruction of America as we knew it is nearly complete.
Playboy will no longer print pictures of nude women.
That was preceded by an America hating halfrican Marxist in the white house. He proceeded to dismantle the finest health care system in the world and replace it with the worst piece of thoughtless dreck imaginable.
He has alienated every ally and emboldened all of our enemies.
The Won was preceded by a globalist NWO Bush at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
“W” started a justified war in Afghanistan and a barely justified war in Iraq.
He never defended his policies or conservatism.
He was preceded by a serial rapist and liar who was impeached for lying under oath.
A president who would lie when he would have been better served by the truth, who skipped town with a truck load of white house belongings that had to be forcibly repatriated to the proper owners, We The People.
Slick Willy was preceded by NWO globalist elitist George H W Bush.
The President who began to disassemble the work of eight long years of the President whom he was not worthy of serving with, Ronald W (the gipper) Reagan.
And now not even Playboy magazine is spared.
Look at the history.
IT’S ALL BUSHES FAULT!!
This episode of Individual Insanity has concluded, you may now return to your regularly scheduled activities.
They had an Italian fighter that had propellers at both ends, landing gear going each way so that it could immediately change direction when Italy switched sides. Or the British "Heavy" bomber which looked like an armored fort.
No nude photos? Then why buy it?
Playboy has been a left wing rag for decades now. I probably bought my last issue in the 1980s.
I guess they once tried to make a magazine for married men it had the same woman in it every month!
Depends on your definition of lucky. He’s no doubt surrounded by voluptuous 20 year old women who will meet his every need. But at 89 his needs likely consist of wiping his butt and helping him remember what an erection used to be back when the Viagra still worked. Maybe they draw him pictures.
I read the story on Drudge this morning and at first thought it was satire from the Onion. No naked babes in Playboy???!! Get outta here. Playboy started out as a mag with the specific aim of objectifying women.
Now the mags editor in chief, or whatever he's called, goes to Hefner and demands the mag stop objectifying females. THAT WAS THE ENTIRE RAISON D'ETRE OF PLAYBOY!!!! Females were to be viewed as sex objects by the nation's young males. What kind of metrosexual eunuchs are we raising in America today?
Pr0n? Is that a new PC thing?
