Natural Health

Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

I cheat. Mine come from the grocery store. :-) I eat one daily no matter how I have to get it because it’s heart healthy.

Just a testimonial. I have chronic sinus drainage issues. This morning I got out of bed so bad I couldn’t even speak. Sorry if it’s TMI, but I literally had rivers of mucus coming out of my nose and throat simultaneously.

Normally, when I first get up, I have a mixed lemonade and orange juice, with several spoonfuls of various herbal powders mixed in. Not only was I too preoccupied with basic breathing to even bother with that, but my body was just screaming “Coffee!” So I heated some up, and when it was hot, I added a spoonful of pippali powder, and some local raw honey to make that go down easier. It was soo good, I had another afterward. Now my sinus passages are all clear!

Pippali powder is amazing stuff. I first read about it here, and wouldn’t be without it now.

Pippali IS amazing. In the winter months I add it or Trikatu (= amts Pippali, Ginger and Black Pepper) to every hot drink, several times a day.

Now... Cancer herbs info, pinging the list. Sorry about long amazon links. There are no doubt other natural medicinals that may help with cancer; these are ones I used or know about. I think the large quantities of herbs I took before and after surgery helped my “cancer free” test 10 months after surgery.

Many of these herbs can be taken as preventatives, dose is subjective in many cases depending on health status, age, etc. If anyone has questions, just ask. If I don’t know, I will say so!

Turkey Tails - Coriolus versicolor
A tree fungus that grows mostly on dead hardwood. Used in China and Japan for cancer; strengthens immune system and has anti-cancer benefits. I used this brand, tablets are huge but I put in a cup, added about 1/3 c. hot water, it dissolved fast, and drank it.

https://www.amazon.com/Planetary-Herbals-Coriolus-Spectrum-Powerful/dp/B006X1ER6I

Other brand I used. I do not use herbs from China, so check sources.
https://www.amazon.com/Turkey-Tail-Mushroom-Supplement-Capsules/dp/B07MTSTN2V/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2N6YRDC55UC6G&keywords=turkey+tail&qid=1642733009&s=hpc&sprefix=Turkey+tail%2Chpc%2C217&sr=1-5

Shatavari Asparagus racemosus
Immune strengthener, for conditions of debility, support during cancer treatments, especially good for breast or prostate cancer, can take long term.

Ashwaganda
Immune strengthener, conditions of debility, stress and many other benefits, can take long term

Guduchi Tinospora cordifolia
Builds immune system, clears channels, strong detoxifier without weakening the body, good support for people with cancer, broad spectrum antimicrobial, helps metabolism

Manjista Rubia cordifolia-radix
Anti-tumor both benign and cancer, clears blood of toxins, promotes circulation, promotes wound healing, anti-inflammatory, other uses as well (gall/kidney stones and more)

Neem - Azadiracta indica
Used for tumors (benign) and cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and much more

Matcha – or any green tea, matcha is the best for using as anti-cancer (recommend getting only Japanese)
Naturopath recommended, and I found matcha is stronger in the constituents said to be helpful against cancer. Found a lot of Ito En at Grocery Outlet at very good prices.

Green tea and green tea polyphenols (GTPs) are reported to inhibit carcinogenesis and malignant behavior in several diseases
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6164790/

Early clinical studies suggest that the polyphenols in tea, especially green tea, may play an important role in the prevention of cancer. Researchers also believe that polyphenols help kill cancerous cells and stop them from growing. https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/herb/green-tea

Ito En Matcha – plain, below is sweetened, a lot cheaper
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PFDH0IC?pd_rd_i=B00PFDH0IC&pd_rd_w=cnkwa&pf_rd_p=faa90cdd-671c-4d4c-a2bd-e438f0be59e9&pd_rd_wg=uW0KD&pf_rd_r=ZKKQ9EY1EGN3HFE5PWMJ&pd_rd_r=85a468f9-0eea-4de1-b26b-88efb1965211

https://itoen.com/collections/matcha-powder

Graviola – Annona Muricata , Soursop leaf extract
Not much info out there, but considered to have many uses, including helping growth of new healthy tissues; has helped cure very bad GERD, and much anecdotal anti-cancer evidence
https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Graviola-Wildcrafted-Tincture-Muricata/dp/B011M542LE/ref=sw_img_trq_cart_ki8wduin_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B011M542LE&pd_rd_w=Wtulq&pf_rd_p=6a695cd0-a753-4d8e-bd93-70183f9a2b9b&pf_rd_r=D4NVKGHARYB76WM3PMAA&pd_rd_r=a4471635-9972-4dd3-8cf5-e3c0c89d2441&pd_rd_wg=hb3kI

Turmeric -
Anti-cancer, wound healing, anti-inflammatory, helps circulation and a lot more

Prunella – Self-heal, Heal-all Prunella vulgaris
Used in China against cancer, also anti-viral/anti-bacterial, high BP, fevers

Melatonin
Recommended by my Naturopath MD, not sure of dosage, considered good against cancer. I react badly to it (very rare).

Modified Citrus Pectin
Recommended by my Dr, said to help scavange cancer cells in the system and remove from the body. Especially useful around surgery, biopsy or other procedures. I used this brand, there are many others.
https://www.amazon.com/Allergy-Research-Group-Molecular-Vegetarian/dp/B000M8SL60/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1KZ0Z1U7EZ232&keywords=modified+citrus+pectin&qid=1642731886&s=hpc&sprefix=modified+citrus+pectinp%2Chpc%2C164&sr=1-8
Another brand that looks good and has useful info and reviews:
https://www.amazon.com/EcoNugenics-PectaSol-Modified-Total-Body-Optimal/dp/B0024NLDV6/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1KZ0Z1U7EZ232&keywords=modified%2Bcitrus%2Bpectin&qid=1642731886&s=hpc&sprefix=modified%2Bcitrus%2Bpectinp%2Chpc%2C164&sr=1-6&th=1

Red Clover
Traditionally used to help in cancer treatment, primarily breast cancer, and blood cleansing. I have not used but this is a good brand, or make tea and drink.
https://www.amazon.com/Planetary-Herbals-Clover-Cleanser-Tablets/dp/B004GWEDLK/ref=sr_1_37?crid=14X22W2AK6NEE&keywords=Planetary+herbs&qid=1642732694&s=hpc&sprefix=planetary+herbs%2Chpc%2C151&sr=1-37

Licorice if high BP is an issue use de-glycerized.
Helpful to protect liver during cancer chemo treatments, anti-inflammatory,anti-viral, good for hyperacidity and many other benefits

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this ping list.

Adding:

Red Root
Recommended by my Dr as the two sentinal lymph nodes had cancer in and around. Red Root is specific for cleansing the lymph nodes and system. It also helped a friend with recurring swollen lymph nodes.

Looks like a good brand:
https://www.amazon.com/Alcohol-FREE-Extract-Wildcrafted-Ceanothus-Americanus/dp/B01MU63YTJ/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=red+root+tincture&qid=1642813532&sr=8-5

Vit D3
Important immune support, with larger doses one needs to be careful about balancing.

Quercetin
I did not know about Quercetin when I had cancer, but it sounds like something to add.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4808895/

“Quercetin, a flavonoid found in fruits and vegetables, has unique biological properties that may improve mental/physical performance and reduce infection risk [1]. These properties form the basis for potential benefits to overall health and disease resistance, including anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, and psychostimulant activities, as well as the ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation, platelet aggregation and capillary permeability, and to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis [2]. Therefore, there is a pressing need for well-designed clinical trials to evaluate this novel dietary supplement further. This article reviews effects of quercetin on inflammation and immunity in mental and physical performance and health.”

Hope to post tomorrow links to the posts with heart health info and add more, and then same thing for brain/mental functioning herbs and related things.

It really helps me to think about useful health info and getting it out for others and not just the “horribilized” news all the time.

Pippali’s on the thread someplace. In short, one of the best herbs to help lung function, not just symptomatically but improve generally. It’s sort of related to black pepper, has an unusual hot taste, I realy like it in hot tea or milk. I have a post about medicated milk drinks, in gist:

1 cup milk, 1/2 cup water (or 1/2 each), add 1/2 t. Pippali, simmer until the water part evaporates, drink hot. With honey tastes good and honey also aids assimilation. You can use black pepper instead for a more drying effect (if lots of drippy congestion), or powdered ginger. Or turmeric for other benefits.

And - good info on cancer and Ivermectin.

https://gab.com/bonafideone/posts/107668567934268859

Ivermectin, a potential anticancer drug derived from an antiparasitic drug

Ivermectin has powerful antitumor effects, including the inhibition of proliferation, metastasis, and angiogenic activity, in a variety of cancer cells. This may be related to the regulation of multiple signaling pathways by ivermectin through PAK1 kinase. On the other hand, ivermectin promotes programmed cancer cell death, including apoptosis, autophagy and pyroptosis. Ivermectin induces apoptosis and autophagy is mutually regulated. Interestingly, ivermectin can also inhibit tumor stem cells and reverse multidrug resistance and exerts the optimal effect when used in combination with other chemotherapy drugs.

I use 5000 D3 about 3 X a week. I don’t use any other vitamins, for a number of reasons. I can’t go in direct sun more than a few minutes so I use D3.
