When Gusty Wind drew off to win the fifth race at Gulfstream Park July 21 by 3 3/4 lengths, Jerry Bozzo broke his own record as the oldest trainer to win a Thoroughbred race. "It's very gratifying. I wish I could have been there in the winner's circle," said the 97-year-old Bozzo, who watched the victory on his home computer. "That would have pumped me up even more."

MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) - A simple act of kindness has sparked a chain reaction for a North Alabama World War II veteran. Strangers are buying the veteran lunch, as a way to say thank you. Like clockwork, 93-year-old Mr. Gilbert goes to Subway for lunch, usually alone, but Wednesday his son is visiting from out of state. Everyday it's the same turkey sandwich and conversation with those around him. Sharing his contagious smile and a courageous past. "I turned 20-years-old, 60 days later I'm in the Army and I went to the South Pacific,” said Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert as...

Robert Siesky was my wife's step father. He was in a coma the last 2 months. He never talked about his service until he was in the hospital. He told me he worked on tanks and landed at Omaha Beach. I got a copy of his DD214 (I'm not sure if they were called 214s in 1946 when this was dated)which is very faded. He told me he was in Europe his whole service. I need help in understanding the awards listed because there is not a complete database on the internet that provides citations of each medal and there...

Cecil "Lucky" Warren passed away the other day. And that raises this question: Even though he died last weekend, was he actually murdered almost four years ago? Some of you may remember the story. Lucky Warren, then 77, was the former World War II Army paratrooper and lifelong professional gardener who was attacked by two young thugs on Veterans Day 2003 as he was cleaning the parking lot outside a bank in Huntington Beach. The thugs knocked him down, kicked him viciously in the head, stole 50 of his hard-earned dollars and left him lying unconscious on the ground. Since...
