The Thanksgiving turkey hasn't been stuffed yet, but it's not stopping Boston's all-oldies station WODS-103.3FM from breaking its format this Friday morning (11/18) thru the day after Christmas in favor of the sounds of the season. This is the third straight year WODS is going all-Christmas. The holiday pop classics such as Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”, Paul McCartney’s “Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time”, Bruce Springsteen’s version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, Wilson Pickett’s version of “Silver Bells” and Chuck Berry’s “Run, Run Rudolph” among others will fill the air at WODS-FM for 38 days. But as was...

Canada's top court ruled Tuesday to keep marijuana possession illegal, dealing a blow to activists who had argued the drug causes no serious harm. In a 6-3 decision spanning 400 pages, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that possession, even in small amounts, would remain a criminal offense. In a separate, unanimous decision, it maintained trafficking was illegal. The judgment prompted praise from law enforcement groups and disappointment from proponents of legalization. "My huge patriotism may slowly be dissipating. I have a lot of faith in my country, in freedom and justice, but it doesn't seem like we have a...

Back in the 80s, Nancy Reagan championed a “War on Drugs” campaign that featured as its slogan “Just Say NO!” From what I could determine, the only people who took the slogan seriously, who imagined it would do anything to stem the use of drugs, were the drug warriors themselves. Everyone else pretty much laughed at or ignored it. But Nancy was right. She was just right about the wrong thing. The real target of her “Just Say NO!’ campaign should have been the Federal government itself. There are two ways a government can control its citizens—by using guns or...
