CNN) -- The partner of Ebola patient Thomas Duncan is quarantined in her Dallas apartment where Duncan became sick with the virus after his trip to Liberia, the woman told CNN's Anderson Cooper. The woman, who asked to be identified only by her first name, Louise, is quarantined with one of her children under 13 and two nephews in their 20s because they were in apartment when Duncan became ill, Cooper said Thursday. Duncan, a 42-year-old Liberian citizen, is in serious condition in a Dallas hospital, a spokeswoman said Thursday. But Louise remains in her apartment, and she's worried, not...

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit's water department defended its shutoff policy Monday and warned that free service to people with unpaid bills could be "very devastating" to the bottom line. Judge Steven Rhodes set aside Detroit's bankruptcy trial to hear evidence in a controversy that has been boiling all summer. A coalition representing low-income residents is asking him to suspend water shutoffs and restore service to people who have lost it. The water department would be violating Michigan law and breaking agreements with bond holders if forced to supply water and ignore overdue bills, attorney Sonal Mithani said. The "humanitarian concerns...

The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services recently announced awarding $500 to each of 10,847 families to help cover costs for the upcoming school year. According to the SRS “eligibility for the program is determined by household size, income and resources … eligible families will be notified by mail.” But if you are poor and did not receive such a payment, there is no mechanism to...

Over 9 Million Americans are now on SSDI or SSI and soon it will be 10 Million. I have written a few times in the past about these corrupt programs and how they will soon be unsustainable because of how broad the definitions of disability are (especially mental disability) and the broad language that is used in the Federal Statutes that virtually anyone can get the benefits of SSI. I would like to add that SSI and SSDI are separate programs with SSI being the more Liberal of the two of them. In SSI you do not have to have...
