House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is confident he can narrowly win the speakership in January, even if it takes multiple rounds of voting for it happen. The Arkansas state Senate approved a measure on Tuesday to require voters to show photo identification before they can cast a ballot, sending it to Democratic Governor Mike Beebe who has not said whether he would sign it into law. Here’s a plan for 2008. Suppose a Democrat wins a close presidential election. But the House and Senate are still very likely to remain in Republican hands. The GOP could then challenge the electoral vote certification, just like the Democrats did this year.
