President Trump no longer plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for a second in-person summit “in the immediate future” after Russia rejected his demand to stop the war in Ukraine along the current battle lines.
The White House announcement followed a Monday call between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which a source familiar with the conversation said demonstrated the Kremlin’s unwillingness to commit to Trump’s strategy for peace.

Another choice would be exactly what the war mongers want, which is total escalation into WWIII by having NATO forces directly engage Russia.

1. Trump talks to Putin on the phone.
2. Trump tells everyone that it was a long fruitful and hopeful and productive talk.
3. Trump says that there will be scheduled face to face meeting.
4. Then everything goes back to what it was before.
I somehow think that #2 above is wishful thinking.
Waiting for the articles about H1-B visas for Russians and Chinese. It should be entertaining, and accompanied with RBGs.
Trump today suggests no meeting with Xi.
That is translated as “no Rare Earth Magnet” deal.
That is also translated as no Tomahawks can be built.
And that does not suggest Zelensky has many options.

I have concluded that Russian leadership really hates Ukrainian independence and Ukrainian leadership really hates Russian hegemony.
There will be bad blood for generations of people in the region. And if Russian troops occupy the Western portions of Ukraine it will have to a hard time holding it without finishing exterminating them.

You’re interpreting the headline the way ‘they’ want it interpreted, unless someone can point us to a call by Putin for Ukraine to ‘surrender unconditionally’.
The war will end when Russia’s objectives have been met, and they are FAR LESS than occupying the Nazi-infest Western half of Ukraine - that’s for Poland, if they’re dumb enough to want it.

Perhaps Putin is betting he can continue and get more of whatever he thinks he is getting by staying in Ukraine, just short of NATO joining on the Uke’s side?
The Ukes have a losing hand; they don’t have enough people or manufacturing ability and are unlikely to be gifted what would be needed in weapons to win
Every day Putin stays and continues increases the likelihood that NATO will step in somehow, regardless of the risks. The whole thing is very sad now and the outlook is even sadder.
