Despite his losses in the Alabama and Mississippi primaries, Mitt Romney appears to have expanded his delegate lead on Tuesday. The most recent projections from AP show Rick Santorum took 31 delegates from Alabama and Mississippi, while Newt Gingrich took 24 delegates and Romney got 23 But this morning, Romney was projected to win all nine delegates from American Samoa’s caucuses, and he also won the Hawaii caucuses by a large margin. AP projections show Romney beat Santorum 18 delegates to four in those jurisdictions. So, as of this morning, Romney has won 41 delegates from Tuesday’s contests, compared to...

Mormons like Glenn Beck and Senator Orrin Hatch have long given a high profile to this American-grown faith. And with Mitt Romney in the running for the Republican nomination, the question of exactly how to categorize Mormonism has become news. An Evangelical pastor who supports Rick Perry told reporters he thought Mormonism is “a cult”, prompting a denial of the opinion by the Perry campagn, and a characterization of it as “bigotry” by former member of the Reagan cabinet, Bill Bennett, speaking in support of Romney. Mormons, meanwhile, very openly express the hope that having a Mormon running in the...

WALTHAM, MA (July 12, 2007) -- Twenty-two conservative activist leaders have publicly released a letter challenging the conservative magazine National Review's "puff work" for presidential candidate Mitt Romney and implying that the magazine is quietly abandoning the social conservative grassroots and constitutionalism. The letter was sent to National Review on June 1, 1007. The editors refuse even to acknowledge receipt of the letter, which cites information about which they've misled their readers, most strikingly: •Romney's stance and record after his "awakening" are not pro-life. •The Massachusetts Constitution says the people are bound only by laws ratified by the legislature; and...

Nearly two dozen family values activists have written to National Review, criticizing the publication for “puff” reporting of Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign that ignores his “constitutional bungling” of the court decision that led to same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. The letter was dispatched by Sandy Rios of the Culture Campaign, Scott Lively of Defend the Family International, Linda Harvey of Mission America, William Greene of RightMarch.com, Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth, John Haskins of Parents’ Rights Coalition and others. “If any conservative thinks Romney’s ‘management skills’ qualify him to run a nation in need of moral vision, clear worldview...
  • Romney created 'gay' marriage, family groups say

Nearly four dozen pro-family leaders and activists have made public their direct challenge to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who is considering a run for the presidency in 2008, to document his opposition to homosexual marriages. And they say he ignored them. According to the organization MassResistance.org, the leaders hand-delivered a letter to the former governor on Dec. 20, before he left office, documenting why they believe he voluntarily instituted directives that created homosexual “marriages” in that state, even though he did not have to. They asked him to act in response, and they say he didn’t even acknowledge the...
  • Family group: Mitt Romney chose 'gay' marriage (01/16/2007)

A leader of the Parents’ Rights Coalition in Massachusetts says he believed all along that Gov. Mitt Romney chose to implement “gay” marriages in that state, and now a court has confirmed that it did not have the power to order that change. John Haskins, associate director of the family-support organization, told WND that three years after the Goodridge decision by the Supreme Judicial Court in Massachusetts, “Americans merely have to note that the judges admit now … that they have no power over the other branches of government, and that the state constitution says that only the legislature can...
