Conservative Sen. Ted Cruz is endorsing Louisiana Republican congressional candidate Zach Dasher, adding to the candidate's roster of high-wattage support. "Zach Dasher is a conservative with a backbone to stand up to career politicians in both parties, to help lead the fight to repeal Obamacare, to stop amnesty, to defend our conservative values," Cruz, a Texas Republican, says in a video endorsement of Dasher released Wednesday. The Louisiana businessman is among a field of candidates running against scandal-scarred Republican Rep. Vance McAllister for a spot in the race's December runoff. McAllister, whose political ambitions took a pounding when he was...

BATON ROUGE, La. — A nephew of “Duck Dynasty’s” Phil Robertson says he is running for the Louisiana congressional seat held by Vance McAllister, who was elected with the TV family’s support and later was wrapped up in scandal when video surfaced showing him kissing a married staffer. Zach Dasher, a 36-year-old Republican who has never run for office, said in a statement Monday announcing his candidacy for the Nov. 4 election that he opposed the federal health overhaul and abortion and supports a constitutional amendment requiring that Congress balance the budget. “I got to looking around at the problems...

Newly-elected Rep. Vance McAllister, R-La., will not seek re-election in November, according to a local report. Earlier this month, surveillance footage leaked of McAllister kissing one of his congressional staffers. The incident led to multiple calls for his resignation, including from Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. “I am committed to serving the 5th District to the best of my ability through this term, but I also have to take care of my family as we work together to repair and strengthen the relationship I damaged,” McAllister told the News-Star, which also reported that McAllister will complete the rest of his term.

But in prepared statement released late Monday McAllister said: “There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking for forgiveness. Vance McAlliser, one of two candidates in a runoff for Congressman from Louisiana’s Fifth District, said yesterday that he supported a “path to citizenship” for aliens that are in the United States illegally. Path to Citizenship is considered by most conservatives to be a politically correct term for amnesty for illegals. From the News Star: And on immigration reform, McAllister said he would support a path to citizenship for those immigrants already here illegally. “We have to secure the borders, but (citizenship) has to be attainable for those people already here,” he said. “It has to be a tough path,...

When President Barack Obama appears at the Port of New Orleans tomorrow, he won't be joined by Louisiana's only statewide elected Democrat, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu. Landrieu will travel with Obama to New Orleans on the president's plane, Air Force One, but she doesn't plan to attend his speech about boosting exports. The U.S. Senator has a long-standing engagement in Lake Charles that takes place at the same time and she can't be in both places at once, staff said. Her absence at Obama's public appearance in Louisiana this year could raise some questions. Landrieu is expected to face a...

Republican Study Committee Chairman Steve Scalise has fired the group's longtime executive director, Paul Teller, multiple sources tell National Journal. The reason for the dismissal, according to sources familiar with the situation, is that Teller allegedly shared sensitive conversations between RSC members with outside advocacy groups, some of whom hold policy positions counter to the RSC. "No staffer is above a member," said one senior Republican aide familiar with the situation. "Paul was divulging private, member-level conversations and actively working against RSC strategies supported by House conservatives." Teller could not immediately be reached for comment. The move comes as Scalise,...

In a final push to encourage Hispanics to enroll in Obamacare before the March 31 deadline, President Barack Obama has said that immigration officials will not obtain information from the healthcare program that could lead to deportations. "The main thing for people to know is that any information you get, you know, asked with respect to buying insurance, does not have anything to do with… the rules governing immigration," Obama said in an interview with Univision Deportes, according to The Hill. "If you have a family where some people are citizens or legally here, and others are not documented, the...

Various radio commentators have suggested what the GOP should do tonight to liven up the SOTU. How about we help them with some more. Here's mine: I remember Harry Chapin's concerts; he'd sing "30,000 lbs of Bananas" and end with the audience shouting "It sucks, Harry!" Maybe the GOP could just shout "It sucks, Barry!"

A+E Networks, parent company of A&E, has released the following statement to Variety: “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”

A&E’s Woes Over Phil Robertson Firing Intensify with Duck Dynasty Family By firing the star of the reality show “Duck Dynasty”, the A&E Network is walking a very fine line between fans and demands from gay rights groups such as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). Interestingly, the lines aren’t drawn squarely between conservatives on one side and gay rights activists on the other. Noted writer and lesbian Camille Paglia has expressed outrage over the denunciation of Phil Robertson and affirmed his right to express his religious views on homosexuality. Paglia claims the moral right to speak on...

It was only a matter of time before the left complained about Phil Robertson. His actual quotes in GQ are almost insignificant – at some point, someone was going to go after him for his views on guns, women, and even his much-hated “yuppie” comments. The surprise should be how liberals dismissed the rise of Duck Dynasty until this fall, when it was too late to stem the show’s popularity. Once it became evident that this family held so much influence, the left suddenly realized they faced the first threat to their decades-long monopoly on popular culture. Anyone familiar with...
