130 ‘radioactive’ Japanese cars banned from entering Russia More than 130 used cars from Japan were denied access to Russia last year as consumer watchdog agency Rospotrebnadzor remains concerned about the contaminated water leaks at Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant. Strict control of all cargo, arriving from Japan, will continue in 2014 as well, Rospotrebnadzor said on its website. “In 2013, Russia has banned 165 batches of contaminated goods from entering the country. There were mainly used cars – 132, and spare parts for vehicles – 33,” the statement said. Deliveries of fish coming from Japan and those caught...

Radioactive second-hand cars dog Japan by: Richard Lloyd Parry From: The Times October 26, 2011 10:24AM RUSTING hulks disguised with new paint, and mileage clocks reset - the wiles of the second-hand car dealer are well known. However, motorists in Japan are facing an unfamiliar peril. They are being offered used cars with low mileage, well-maintained engines and sound bodywork. The only flaw is that they are dangerously radioactive. In the aftermath of the nuclear disaster, used-car dealerships have found themselves stuck with vehicles that have absorbed high levels of radiation from the meltdown of the reactors at the Fukushima...

Radiation Detected in Used Vehicle for Exports near Tokyo Kawasaki, Kanagawa Pref., Oct. 25 (Jiji Press)--Radiation levels of up to 58.86 microsieverts per hour have been detected in a used vehicle stored in a port facility here for exports, local authorities said Tuesday. The vehicle was brought to the port facility in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, Monday after being auctioned in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. The vehicle is now kept by its owner. The vehicle measured between 6.034 and 58.86 microsieverts in radiation, Kawasaki city government officials said. The amount of radiation in the air around the...

Well, here it is. I was looking for a second car, just an around town beater. Finally thought I found a half decent 95 grand am for 1500. High miles, not attractive but new inspection and new tires. It ran well. They guy at the little lot was sooo nice. Introduced me to his wife. Had the wife bring out their 9 mo. old little girl. Seemed like the just your average good joe. Well, I made an offer of 1300. and he agreed. Paid 1100. cash and the rest in check. (cont. below)

If you’re shopping for a used car, there are a number of things you can do to prevent getting stuck with a problem car. 1) Look for a reliable model. Often you can avoid many factory problems associated with cars that perform poorly over the long run. Visit www.nhtsa.dot.gov to view an up to date list of safety defects. 2) Decide where you want to buy your car. Buying from a private party, a new car dealer or a used car dealer each has advantages and disadvantages. You may get a lower price buying from an individual, but you will...

New cars undercut used models as industry tries to move metal By John Reed, Motor Industry Correspondent Published: April 9 2009 03:00 | Last updated: April 9 2009 03:00 In one of the most striking signs yet of the conflicting pressures buffeting the auto industry, some new cars are now selling more cheaply than used vehicles. A shortage of good-quality used cars combined with aggressive discounts offered on many new ones by retailers and manufacturers now mean that some new cars can be had for as much as £1,000 less than used ones in good condition.

FReepers, as you may probably know, I was involved in a car crash that resulted in the demise of my beloved companion, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. Sadly, the insurance adjustor has determined that my most dearly loved mode of transportation cannot be repaired at a cost of less than its market value, wherefore they are offering a buyout so that I can purchase another vehicle. Insurance will not compensate unless they receive my TITLE, so seeking 2nd opinions from independent body shops is not an option. Anyway, before entering the dangerous jungle of the used car market with...

I am in the process of purchasing a certified pre-owned vehicle. I usually buy new, but figured this time I would try Certified Pre-Owned primarily for price reasons. I get to get the vehicle I want with the equipment I want and pay a whole lot less. The vehicle is a 2005 with 17,000 miles. Looks great inside and out (just came in and had not gone through the detail shop yet). It has a minor ding that the dealer will take care of on the one wheelwell. I deceided to get a Carfax Report and it showed that the...
