Ten members of the banking community are working with the New York Innovation Center (NYIC), which is part of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, to explore the feasibility of the regulated liability network (RLN) — an interoperable digital money platform. The proposed RLN would use distributed ledger technology to improve financial settlements and would include central banks, commercial banks and regulated non-banks, the participating firms said Tuesday (Nov. 15) in a press release. “The 12-week PoC [proof of concept] will test a version of the RLN design that operates exclusively in U.S. dollars where commercial banks issue simulated...

DENVER (KDVR) — Some people are not getting their paychecks Friday due to a banking system issue. Deposits are reportedly delayed at multiple banks across the U.S. The Federal Reserve is reporting an issue with the Automated Clearing House, which is the primary system agencies use for electronic funds transfers. Customers of Bank of America, Chase, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo and other banks have been reporting issues with deposits on X, formally Twitter, and Downdetector. Both Chase and Bank of America gave statements to CNN, confirming that some deposits may be delayed. The Fed reported a batch of transfers had...

Emily James worked as a senior banker at a U.S. Bank call center in Portland when she received a call from a customer last month whose paycheck had been placed on hold, James worked to help Marc Eugenio, a Clackamas resident, get access to the more than $1,000 that should have been in his account before telling him to go to his local bank the next day to get the money cleared by a manager. The following day, on Christmas Eve, Eugenio visited his local branch but because of the holiday, no one was able to help him. A devasted...

Now, here's an ad to draw some attention.  Whom does that look like? Most hard work isn’t glamorous. But it’s worth it. Wherever you are on the journey to your goals, we’re here to help.— U.S. Bank (@usbank) March 29, 2019 By the wildest of coincidences, it follows the socialist "it" girl's recent statements on the value of hard work, the ones she made headlines for because she adopted a black accent to say it for a black audience: Rep. Ocasio-Cortez: "I'm proud to be a bartender. Ain't nothing wrong that. There's nothing wrong with working retail...There is nothing wrong...

A few months ago I got online to pay on a new account I have at U.S. Bank. I pay a certain amount every month, like everyone does on installment loans. U.S. Bank has a full-featured consumer website; I mean it’s got all the bells and whistles. That’s what you’d expect from a bank with $19.6 billion in revenue (2013); the fifth largest bank in America, with assets of $353 billion. U.S. Bank is bigger than American Express, SunTrust, and ScottTrade, combined. So I was surprised when I only saw the option to pay online, a single payment at a...

A bank teller in Kentucky claims she was fired from her job for telling customers, "Have a blessed day." Polly Neace wished customers at U.S. Bank in Walton, Kentucky, well with those words of blessing for more than two years. She said she never had anyone complain about the saying, which she said she was inspired to adopt when someone said the phrase to her in 2009. "I mean, in my opinion, I don't think there's any better way to have a blessed day," she explained in an interview with Fox News. But Neace said she was told she could...

The lawsuits against Bank of America are piling up. The latest comes from Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, which wants Bank of America Corp. to repurchase poorly-written mortgages sold by Countrywide Financial in 2005. Bank of America bought Countrywide Financial Corp. in 2008. The lawsuit, which was filed in New York on Monday, claims Countrywide sold U.S. Bancorp a pool of over 4,000 loans originally valued at $1.75 billion. U.S. Bancorp claims Countrywide ignored its own mortgage underwriting guidelines when issuing those loans. According to the complaint, Countrywide agreed to repurchase loans within 90 days if any of the statements made in...

Due to the growing list of brands disclosing that they have been compromised as a result of this breach, I’m going to go ahead and tag this as a massive breach. And I only expect it to get bigger as more announcements come out from Epsilon customers. Last night we reported on a breach at marketing services provider, Epsilon, the world’s largest permission-based email marketing provider. Initially we wrote that the breach had affected Kroger, the nation's largest traditional grocery retailer. There is a list of companies at the link (but I don't know if that is going to be...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators shut down two big savings and loans based in Southern California on Friday, saying they fell victim to the acute distress in the housing market in that state. The two companies were the Downey Savings and Loan Association, based in Newport Beach, and PFF Bank & Trust of Pomona. Their closings brought the number of bank failures this year to 22. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was appointed receiver of the two thrifts. U.S. Bank, based in Minneapolis, acquired all the deposits of both institutions. Downey had assets of $12.8 billion and deposits of $9.7...
