The United Nations human rights office has expanded its controversial database of companies operating in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, adding 61 firms to the list, Reuters reported Friday. The database, first released in 2020, now contains 214 companies. Most are Israeli, while firms from 10 other countries are also included, among them France, Germany, China and the United States. The list was condemned by the US during the first Trump administration. In recent weeks, some 130 Israeli companies and another 60 international corporations have received letters from the current UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Jordan’s Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, warning them that they are being “blacklisted” for “acting contrary to international law and UN decisions." According to Yediot Aharonot, the list in question includes well-known Israeli companies spanning different sectors, from food to services, pharmaceuticals to hi-tech. The U.N. General Assembly has agreed to fund the compiling of a first-ever U.N. blacklist of private companies doing business in territories disputed between Israel and the Palestinians. A Palestinian U.N. delegate explained earlier that the goal was to encourage countries to boycott such companies.
