DAVE KRIEGER: IOC ignores Iraq's atrocities Scripps Howard News Service (March 27, 2003 4:10 p.m. EST) - You might think the United Nations leads the mealy-mouthed parade, but the U.N. is a beacon of moral courage next to the International Olympic Committee. Institutional neutrality is generally a good thing for the IOC - its mission is to bring the world together, and it overlooks all sorts of grumbling, grievances and grudges to do it. But neutrality is not far from indifference, and the IOC is straddling this distinction as it continues to permit its most precious asset - the Olympic...

Wives and Children of Aides to Uday Hussein Killed, AFP Reports Baghdad, April 3 (Bloomberg) -- The wives and children of two close aides of Saddam Hussein's elder son Uday were killed in an allied attack at their farm north of Baghdad, Agence France-Presse cited unidentified relatives of the victims as saying. Two missiles struck the farm in Ishaqi, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Baghdad, killing the two families, AFP said. The two aides, Acyl Tabra, first vice-president of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee chaired by Uday, and Bashar Hisham, another board member, were not at the farm...

AN IRAQI man forced to work as a body double for Saddam Hussein’s son Uday was held at Birmingham International Airport yesterday as he tried to enter the UK. Latif Yahai, a former soldier who is the spitting image of Saddam’s eldest and most feared son, was spotted by security officials while en route from Germany to appear on a TV chat show in Belfast. Speaking in Birmingham yesterday Mr Yahai, who was forced to undergo plastic surgery to enhance his likeness to Uday, said: “They were very suspicious of me because I have an Iraqi passport and, as I...

Uday’s 800,000-Strong Guerrilla-Suicide Army Uday Hussein, faithfully obeying his father, immersed himself from April 2002 in creating a vast guerrilla-terrorist army 800,000 strong, according to DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s intelligence sources. Its largest component, around 650,000, comes from the ubiquitous Baath party, the Saddam regime’s eyes, ears and informers in every corner of Iraqi society, together with members of Saddam’s Fedayeen (Martyrs) Division of the Special Republican Guards. These Iraqi elements – irregular and military – were responsible for plaguing the American columns pushing north to Baghdad and playing havoc with their long supply lines, forcing the allied war command to take stock...

Nasiriya, (Special to Iraq Press), March 28, 2003 ? U.S. missile and aerial bombing have taken a heavy toll on the paramilitary troops in major cities in southern Iraq. Iraq Press correspondents say the bombing has reduced several buildings housing members of the militia force known as Saddam Fedayeen to rubble. They also said the ruling Baath party offices and headquarters in Basra, Nasiriya, Najaf and even Baghdad have been targets of U.S. bombs and missiles. "Saddam's grip is loosening in major cities in southern Iraq and his loyalists are in acute distress," one correspondent said. The nearly 25,000 fedayeen...

If the antiwar protesters had their way, things wouldn't be better. They'd be much, much worse. A HIGH SCHOOL basketball coach I know has a special approach to those who oppose the war in Iraq. "Oh," he says, "you're on the side of rape, torture, and child abuse." Naturally the antiwar people are offended and angrily insist they're for peace and protecting civilian lives and other noble things besides. Still, there's a point behind the coach's rough characterization of the antiwar crowd. And it shouldn't be forgotten as the war in Iraq enters its second week. Yes, many of the...

Arbil, Iraq Press, March 26, 2003 ? Members of the dreaded militia force known as Saddam Fedayeen now have orders to kill any Iraqi on the spot if he refuses to fight the advancing U.S. and British forces. The commando force is the most dreaded in Iraq and its powers and privileges even exceed those of the elite forces of the Republican Guard. They are present in major cities and operate in small groups. Their tasks include maintaining order in residential areas and using maximum force to quell any sign of dissent. They are also equipped with rocket propelled grenades,...

CIVILIANS have fought with axes and knives against Saddam Hussein's heavily-armed militiamen during an uprising in Basra, an Iraqi opposition group has said. The "Iraq Headquarters" of the US-backed Iraqi National Congress (INC), located in Kurdish-held northern Iraq, said it had received reports from "field officers" by satellite phone. "Civilians fought with axes and knives against Saddam's Fedayeen", who used mainly mortars and Kalashnikov rifles, an INC spokesman said. There were casualties, but no figures were available, he added. Saddam's Fedayeen, a paramilitary militia which according to the British military has 1000 men in Basra, is headed by the Iraqi...

With their black uniforms, black masks, and modern cars on which large-caliber machineguns are installed, the Saddam fedayeen [commandos] have been known as an armed organization responsible for maintaining internal security. The image of the Saddam fedayeen as "tough men" is promoted through the Al-Shabab [youth] television, which is run by Uday , President Saddam Husayn 's elder son. The television station often shows them while they bite wolf and snake flesh. According to unofficial estimates, the fedayeen force consists of 40,000 to 50,000 men. They were initially led by Uday , who supervised the official establishment of the force...

Sports Illustrated's latest edition features an article on former President Bill Clinton's prowess on the golf course. He is the master of "gimmees", "mulligans" (which his playing partners refer to as "Billigans") and creative math. His "win at any cost" attitude, total disregard for the rules and redefining the truth is a troubling read. Ironic that the article immediately following the one on the ex-prez is an article on Uday Hussein, Saddam's eldest son, and the head of the Iraq Olympic organization. His "win at any cost" attitude, total disregard for the rules of humanity and punishment of anyone that...

American intelligence officials have concluded that Saddam Hussein and his two murderous sons likely survived the attack on his bunker and that the bumbling old man who appeared on TV really was the feared Iraqi dictator. Officials said the speaker's voice and mannerisms were consistent with Saddam, who has been known to rely on body doubles. What they weren't certain about was whether the video was prerecorded. The speaker mentioned the date of the attack, March 20, but officials said he could have prerecorded a series of videos. Government officials are convinced that Saddam and both of his sons, Uday...

Saddam Hussein's eldest son mercilessly beats girls as young as 12 on the soles of their feet if they refuse to sleep with him, Iraqi defectors said today. Uday Hussein forces head teachers of schools in Baghdad's poorest districts to send pupils to his palace where he arranges dates with those he likes. If the chosen girls annoy him in anyway they are dangled over a wooden beam held by his bodyguards and repeatedly hit with a wooden club, according to two former members of his inner circle who recently fled Iraq. "He does it to a girl if she...

EXCERPT - Washington -- U.S. intelligence officials are confident that a cruise missile attack at dawn Thursday killed several members of Saddam Hussein's inner circle, perhaps including one of his sons, but that Hussein himself is still alive, according to intelligence sources. They said that they believe Hussein's son Qusai, who was recently placed in charge of the defense of the Baghdad and Tikrit region, as well as one of Hussein's most trusted lieutenants, Izzat Ibrahim, may have been among those killed when cruise missiles hit a residential compound in the opening salvo of the war. Officials told The Associated...

Judge for yourself based on the source whether you think it is credible or not...USWAR/Uday suffers brain hemorrhage Tehran, March 20, IRNA -- Uday, the elder son of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, struck by brain hemorrhage following conflict with a member of Saddam's Fedayeen on Thursday. Mosuah al-Nahrain in its website on Thursday quoted sources north of Iraq as saying that very tough and indecent orders, issued by Uday, who heads Saddam's Fedayeen, had provoked the conflict as the young man attacked Uday. Uday's bodyguards then beat the man to injury. The website declined to give further comments. BG/AR End
