Florida police shot a man early this morning who opened fire at a Miami-area golf resort owned by President Donald Trump, authorities said. The man, armed with a handgun, was overheard yelling "anti-Trump" rhetoric and had draped a U.S. flag over a counter in the lobby of the Trump National Doral Golf Club, police said. He then fired shots into the ceiling and at chandeliers while apparently waiting for police to arrive, according to authorities. Four officers from the Doral Police Department and one officer from the Miami-Dade Police Department responded to the incident after receiving a 911 call around...

A federal judge has rejected President Trump’s push to dismiss a lawsuit against him for allegedly violating the emoluments clause of the Constitution. U.S. District Judge Peter Messitte in Maryland shut down the Justice Department’s arguments to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the attorney generals in D.C and Maryland, according to court documents. The Trump Organization made a voluntary payment of $151,470 to the Department of the Treasury to keep a promise that the company would not benefit from foreign government payments while Donald Trump is president. The check represents the net profits the Trump Organization — which includes both the president's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, and the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. — made from doing business with foreign leaders for Trump's first year in office, Eric Trump, executive vice president of the company, told the U.K. Daily Mail. "Our donation to the treasury was voluntary and one that...

As a candidate and as president, Donald Trump’s position and comments on immigration have been controversial. But while the president condemns illegal immigration and eliminates protections for some immigrant groups, his companies depend on foreign labor, according to figures from the U.S. Department of Labor. At least one Trump hotel also depends on immigrant labor or descendants of immigrants: Trump National Doral Miami. During a campaign event in October 2016, Trump said that 80 percent of the hotel’s employees are Latinos, according to a Los Angeles Times report. At the event, Trump encouraged his hotel employees “to step forward with...

A week-long stay by the University of Wisconsin football team at a Florida resort owned by President Trump is providing new potential fodder for a lawsuit alleging that the president's private business has put him in violation of the Constitution. During a visit to Miami to play in last month's Orange Bowl, the University of Wisconsin — a public university — put up about 250 players, athletic department staff, senior university officials and board members at the Trump National Doral golf resort. The university's stay may provide new ammunition to the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia, which...

The infamous Trump Hotel located in D.C.'s old post office surpassed its business goals this year, raking in $1.97 million in profit in the first four months, according to the Daily Beast's Betsy Woodruff. The hotel was projected to lose $2 million, as most luxury hotels don't turn a profit in their first few years. Big picture: Trump hotels across the country became sites for anti-Trump protests, which isn't exactly great for business, and several hotels have attempted to distance themselves from the name. One Trump hotel in the SOHO neighborhood in New York and one in Toronto changed their...

President Donald Trump’s golf resort will build two seawalls to protect three holes on the golf course from rising sea levels and water erosion. President Donald Trump will finally get the wall he's after. However, it won't be along the U.S.-Mexico border. An Irish council on Thursday granted approval for a wall to be built around part of Trump's golf course in Doonbeg, Ireland to protect it from water erosion. Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland previously applied to the Clare County Council for a continuous 1.7-mile long wall, but withdrew the application last year. Now, the resort will...

A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit alleging President Trump violated the Constitution’s emoluments clause because his hotels and golf courses continue to do business with foreign governments while he’s serving in office. U.S. District Court Judge George Daniels said the lawsuit was flawed from the start because the plaintiffs, led by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, lacked standing. Daniels, an appointee of former President Bill Clinton, also said the matter should be taken before Congress, not the courts. “As the only political branch with the power to consent to violations of the Foreign Emoluments Clause,...

The former special prosecutor said that Mueller would exceed his mandate if he investigates issues beyond Russia. Former Special Prosecutor Ken Starr said on CNN Friday that if Special Counsel Robert Mueller begins to investigate matters related to President Trump beyond Russia, then the former FBI director would exceed his mandate to investigate. Host Alisyn Camerota asked Starr if Mueller would go too far if he investigates a hypothetical real estate deal with Russians in the 1990s. “Well, Alisyn, you used the key word there, and you said ‘Russian,'” Starr said. “Does this relate to Russia’s activity?” Starr said the...

**snip**Sources described an investigation that has widened to focus on possible financial crimes, some unconnected to the 2016 elections, alongside the ongoing scrutiny of possible illegal coordination with Russian spy agencies and alleged attempts by President Donald Trump and others to obstruct the FBI investigation. Even investigative leads that have nothing to do with Russia but involve Trump associates are being referred to the special counsel to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate, according to two law enforcement sources....the President's attorney, Jay Sekulow, said, "President's outside counsel has not received any requests for documentation or information about this. Special Counsel Robert Muller’s team of investigators are deeply concerned they are going to get sued for their work probing ‘Russian interference’ during the 2016 presidential election. They are so worried that they bought insurance! Daily Caller reports: Department of Justice investigators purchased liability insurance to guard themselves against potential retaliatory lawsuits brought by the subjects they’re investigating as part of the Russia probe. The Department would cover any legal fees incurred in the course of duty. However, a number of investigators opted to purchase extra protection as the probe moves further into examining President Donald Trump’s finances and those...

I take it as a given that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is part of the Democratic Party’s effort to destroy the Trump administration. This is evidenced by the fact that he has staffed his investigation with Democratic Party activist lawyers and contributors to the Hillary Clinton campaign, and by his expansion of his “investigation” beyond any reasonable interpretation of his charge. I conclude that Mueller is not discharging his office of special counsel in good faith, but rather is acting as an agent of those who are trying to destroy or impede the Trump administration, and should be fired. Of...

Some of President Trump’s lawyers are exploring ways to limit or undercut special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation, building a case against what they allege are his conflicts of interest and discussing the president’s authority to grant pardons, according to people familiar with the effort. Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves. Trump’s legal team declined to comment on the issue. But one...

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s lawyers and aides are scouring the professional and political backgrounds of investigators hired by the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, looking for conflicts of interest they could use to discredit the investigation — or even build a case to fire Mr. Mueller or get some members of his team recused, according to three people with knowledge of the research effort. The search for potential conflicts is wide-ranging. It includes scrutinizing donations to Democratic candidates, investigators’ past clients and Mr. Mueller’s relationship with James B. Comey, whose firing as F.B.I. director is part of the special...
