  • Tofurky sues to stop Missouri law over meat terminology

Vegetarian food-maker Tofurky filed a lawsuit in Missouri on Monday seeking to defend its right to describe its products with meat terminology such as "sausage" and "hot dogs," as long as the packaging makes clear what the ingredients are. The Hood River, Oregon-based company and The Good Food Institute, which advocates for plant-based diets, say a Missouri law set to take effect Tuesday that bars companies from "misrepresenting" products as meat if they're not from "harvested livestock or poultry" is too vague and could be used to go after a range of vegetarian products that use such terminology. In a stunning announcement, the White House today announced the end of the Thanksgiving holiday; it is to be replaced by a new event some are calling “political correctness run amok.” The new event, to be called ”Baracksgiving”, is described by the President as “similar to Thanksgiving in many ways, but it’s now an event that re-energizes the meaningfulness of family while keeping proper perspective on who we are and our place in the world.”

Vegetarian alternatives to traditional holiday favorites are becoming increasingly popular and profitable by Rebecca Reisner With Thanksgiving upon us, the folks who make the vegetarian poultry alternative known as "Tofurky" have good reason to flap their wings. Having survived sitcom jokes and glacially slow initial sales, Turtle Island Foods is celebrating the sale of its 1 millionth Tofurky roast since the product was hatched in 1995. "At first, retailers didn't believe anyone was crazy enough to make a whole Tofurky roast for Thanksgiving," recalls Seth Tibbott, founder of Turtle Island Foods, located in Hood River, Ore. "The first one served...

They're slipping.Usually during the run up to Thanksgiving I'll see a weekful of letters to the editor decrying the barbarity of the holiday and condemning turkey genocide. These always put me in the holiday spirit, since the only "right" a turkey has is the right to be delicious on my table! But there were no letters this year! Where were all the writers, in a ditch outside Crawford, Texas? Fortunately, one person did oblige. The following is from my local paper's Thanksgiving Day edition. Brighten my day. Post similar items from your local newspaper.-------------------------------- More than one turkey pardonedThis Thanksgiving, President...
