Pondering when Dan Rather will swing Timing is everything as CBS looks for an out Months before Richard Nixon's resignation, as he was facing impeachment, a "60 Minutes" commentator compared the president to a dead mouse on the kitchen floor of America. The only issue, observed Nicholas von Hoffman, was who was going to pick him up by the tail and toss him into the trash. CBS executives, much lathered by Von Hoffman's effrontery, booted him from his post as a regular commentator. These 30 years later, CBS executives are in a new lather over another Republican president, and they're...

(PRWEB) September 25, 2004 - The ACSA’s “Thought Share on Terrorism” (TSoT) Team issued an elevated Terror Threat Alert to it’s 9.5 million regular and associate members today, after the study group issued a statement predicting an upcoming, election-shaking Terror Attack “with details”. The ACSA (American Computer Scientists Association | http://acsa.net) indicated it felt October 6 and 7th were very likely “Al Qaeda Profiled” days for such an attack to occur. It also stated that any such attack could be delayed to occur closer to the actual US Elections, but for the Democratic Party to seize an opportunity to try...

SACRAMENTO - A year ago on the campaign trail, Arnold Schwarzenegger promised to veto last-minute legislation and end backroom dealing in the Capitol. Now, as the Legislature winds down he is asking lawmakers to endorse his own late proposals on some of the most far-reaching issues of the session. Before legislators leave town as early as Friday, Schwarzenegger wants them to sign off on five Indian casino deals, a Bay Bridge financing scheme and bills involving access to lower-cost prescription drugs and solar energy -- all plans released in the past week. The governor's timing ``makes it almost impossible to...

VITAL SIGNS Many women who suffer migraines tell their doctors that their headaches are related to the onset of menstruation. Two studies released yesterday lend support to that link and to the idea of timing medication to the menstrual cycle as a preventive measure. Both studies were published in the journal Neurology. The lead author of one of the studies, Dr. E. Anne MacGregor of the City of London Migraine Clinic, said that in general about half of women with migraines say their headaches come on more often and with greater severity just before menstruation. Earlier studies had not found...

Washington DC - Embattled US President George W. Bush today sought to distance himself from the simmering 'Timingate' scandal that has dominated the national press and broadcast news for the past three days, and threatens to topple his administration. In what many saw as an evasive and legalistically worded defense, Bushed denied any personal culpability or involvement in L'affaire Berger, in which thousands of Washington GOP operatives remain under a cloud of suspicion for leaking sensitive information about an informal advisor to Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry. Bush's denials prompted immediate condemnations from the Kerry campaign and Hill Democrats, many...

June 20, 2004Bill’s Big But Book“It’s the timing, stupid!” Bill Clinton’s memoir debut is already mirroring his presidency, with a virtual roller coaster of bumpy ups and downs this week ... · CBS’s Dan Rather gushes he read the book and rates it “five stars out of five stars.” · The New York Times trashes it, calling it, “sloppy, self-indulgent and often eye-crossingly dull — the sound of one man prattling away, not for the reader, but for himself and some distant recording angel of history.”· Bill Clinton declares, "The whole [impeachment] battle was a badge of honor. I...

SACRAMENTO – Those most anxious to oust Gov. Gray Davis say he lied to the public last year about the magnitude of California's swelling budget crisis until after he was safely re-elected on Nov. 5.

That allegation, denied by the governor, gathered steam as the deficit soared and the economy dipped during 2002. It fired the recall drive and strikes at the heart of the governor's credibility.

If the size of the Feb. 15-16 global antiwar demonstrations greatly exceeded the expectations of the organizers, their timing was also important. They closely followed the report from Hans Blix, the chief UN weapons inspector in Iraq, to the UN Security Council that was clearly far too soft for the Bush administration. One evident implication of Blix's tone and content was that inspections should continue. Indeed, a significant part of his speech was devoted to detailing the impressive inspection process that has been built up in only 11 weeks, as well as the substantial expansion in UNMOVIC's activities that is...

ICAN stands for Ion Compressed Antimatter Nuclear propulsion. Antimatter Spaceships BY STEFANO COLEDAN "Star Trek" fans may have to wait a few more centuries to embark on quick interstellar trips using wormholes and space-time warps as shortcuts. So while bypassing the cosmic abyss is still a subject of debate among physicists, some of them are already experimenting with a different, more practical approach: antimatter propulsion. If it works, unmanned spaceships could be flying throughout the solar system and interstellar space by the year 2040, says Gerald Smith, a retired Penn State University physics professor. And it's all possible under the...
