A Japanese company is granting non-smoking employees an extra six days of paid holidays a year after they complained that they were working more than staff who took time off for cigarette breaks. "One of our non-smoking staff put a message in the company suggestion box earlier in the year saying that smoking breaks were causing problems", said Hirotaka Matsushima, a spokesman for the company. "Our CEO saw the comment and agreed, so we are giving non-smokers some extra time...

People who work at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy are having a hard time coping with the election of Donald Trump as president, with many reporting depression and some being advised to take sick leave, according to an article published Friday by Environment and Energy Publishing (E&E). “U.S. EPA employees were in tears,” the article stated. “Worried Energy Department staffers were offered counseling. “Some federal employees were so depressed, they took time off,” it stated. “Others might retire early. “And some employees are in downright panic mode in the aftermath of Donald Trump's victory,” the...

This notoriously overscheduled suburb tried a collective timeout Tuesday. It canceled homework, sports practice and other activities so families could spend a few hours together doing nothing.

Not exactly nothing. Some families rediscovered the discrete joys of forming meatballs, coloring Easter eggs and arguing over such topics as: What video will we watch? Who'll clean away all these dinner dishes? Is ''yokum'' really a Scrabble word?
