PIONEER, Calif. — Home surveillance video captured five mountain lions traveling together in Amador County. Mountain lions are normally solitary and elusive. They also make sure to avoid humans, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The video, captured along Stephanie Way in Pioneer, which is east of Jackson, shows the five big cats walking onto a driveway and then crossing the street. The video was taken at Chris Bruetsch’s home. >> See the surveillance video in the player below His neighbor, Don Gall, said residents see all kinds of animals – deer, wild turkeys, bobcats, coyotes –...

ZEPHYRHILLS -- New developments in the murder of a Pasco County cartoon writer who vanished in May have just been released. According to Zephyrhills Police Department, Stephen Perry's body was found completely dismembered and they're looking at one of his roommates as the prime suspect in his murder. Zephyrhills Chief of Police David Shears said he knows who brutally murdered former Thundercats screenwriter Perry. "An arrest warrant was served on James Davis today," Shears said. Davis was Perry's roommate in his Zephyrhills home and has been a 'person of interest' since Perry went missing in May. Zephyrhills police are now...

A morally, historically, socially, and politically childish amalgam of Pocahontas and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, Avatar finds James Cameron--still the Cameron of Titanic (or the uncomfortably simpering T2, if we're honest with ourselves) rather than the Cameron of Aliens and The Terminator--trying his hand at being Kevin Costner: powerful, dim, and only relevant for a tiny window of time he doesn't realize has already closed. The more simple-minded liberal proselytizing he perpetrates like Avatar, the farther away he gets from the B-movie muscularity that indicated his early career. It's a bad thing, believe me, that the first set of movies...

Last month, FilmCrunch told you about some up-and-coming movies based on classic cartoons; one of the more exciting endeavors just edged closer to fruition. H-O-O-O-O! Seasoned videogame art director Jerry O’Flaherty—best known for his work on such games as Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3 and Command and Conquer—will cut his directing teeth on the big-screen, computer-animated adaptation of the classic 80s cartoon Thundercats. O’Flaherty recently told Variety why he has what it takes to bring the idiosyncratic cartoon to the silver screen: “It feels like a natural thing for me to step into. Games have come so far now....

I know there's plenty on FR who were kids in the 1980s. There are a few "classics" in terms of cartoons from this time period. Let's take a stroll down memory lane, with the help of YouTube. A truly forgotten series is Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea. This used to be on Nickelodeon. It was a French-produced series about a "lost civilization" under the earth that seeks help from the surface dwellers. There aren't any episodes on YouTube at the moment, but the intro is at Spartakus intro. It was truly an odd, but unique series. Another series...
