Tesoro could not guarantee that a worst-case rail car spill or public safety disaster could never occur if this project is built. Crappy options are so much easier to slam in the fix. A Tesoro Xl type network is clearly out of the question due to excess feasibility constraints.

The largest U.S. refinery strike in 35 years entered its fourth week as workers at 12 refineries accounting for one-fifth of national production capacity were walking picket lines as of 12 a.m. CST on Sunday, according to union officials. A total of 6,550 members of the United Steelworkers union at 15 plants, including the 12 refineries, are involved in the work stoppage that began on Feb. 1 when talks for a new three-year contract between the USW and lead oil company negotiator Shell Oil Co stopped.... After the latest breakdown between the two sides, Steelworkers leaders targeted Shell, which is...

BP today corrected a number of inaccurate reports that the ARCO brand would be withdrawn from Southern California. BP remains committed to the ARCO and ampm convenience store brands. BP announced plans to divest its Carson, California refinery and Southern California retail network in February 2011. The company intends to sell the refinery, associated businesses and the ARCO-branded retail network in 2012 as an on-going business. A number of prospective buyers have already expressed interest in the refinery and ARCO brand. There are about 920 ARCO-branded stations in Southern California operated by independent dealers and franchisees. Approximately 130 of these...

ANACORTES, Wash. — An explosion and fire at a Washington state oil refinery shook homes and shot flames into the night sky early Friday, killing four people and critically injuring three others. The fire struck the Tesoro Corp. refinery in Anacortes, about 70 miles north of Seattle on Puget Sound, at about 12:30 a.m., the company said. The blaze occurred while maintenance work was being performed and was extinguished in about 90 minutes. Three employees are hospitalized with major burns over the majority of their bodies. Susan Gregg-Hanson, a spokeswoman for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said they are one...

Global Warming Tax   Duke Energy, a leading U.S. electricity and gas utility, announced this week its support for a global warming tax () — essentially a consumption tax on consumers of gasoline, oil, natural gas and coal. The tax is intended to reduce energy use and resulting emissions of greenhouse gases. Duke calls it a “carbon tax,” but we might call it the “Greenpeace tax” in honor of the various radical environmental groups, like Greenpeace (), pushing global warming hysteria and supporting such a tax. But we could also call it the “corporate appeasement tax” in honor of businesses...

Perry releases documents on Tesoro Associated Press AUSTIN (AP) - Tesoro Savings and Loan, the failed thrift once owned by Democrat Tony Sanchez, did not always comply with government supervisory requirements even as it was failing in the late 1980s, records show. Government documents distributed Tuesday by the campaign of Republican Gov. Rick Perry state that after Tesoro was placed in receivership, it violated supervisory rules. Tesoro failed in 1988, requiring a $161 million federal taxpayer bailout. No lawsuit or charges were filed against Tesoro officials over the collapse, and Sanchez paid $1 million to settle the matter. Perry, quoted...
