    A three-week-old boy suffered a fractured skull when authorities say his mother threw him at his father's feet during an argument. Heidy Rios, 24, of Terrytown, was arrested Friday (Nov. 24) and booked with cruelty to a juvenile, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.

    A grand jury indicted Ronald Gasser Jr. on Thursday in the fatal shooting of the former N.F.L. player Joe McKnight, handing down a second-degree murder charge. The charge is more severe than the one that Mr. Gasser had initially faced in December, when critics complained that racial bias may have affected the investigation. If convicted, Mr. Gasser, 54, would face life in prison with no parole.

    A Jefferson Parish jury rejected an Iraq war veteran's insanity defense Wednesday (April 8), finding he knew right from wrong when he shot a Terrytown rapper in the head during a dispute outside a Harvey bar last year. Devin Bonilla was convicted as charged of second-degree murder for killing Bowie Richard, 21, a local entertainer who used the stage name Yung Kaptin. Bonilla, 25, who served in Iraq and was discharged as a private from the Louisiana Army National Guard after his arrest last year, faces spending the rest of his life in prison.
