Not much will keep Cindy down. Her husband is divorcing her, her mother had a stroke, and most of the rest of her family thinks she is stomping on her son’s grave. But she’s still going strong, replacing her actual family with the much more sociable aliens-abducted-my-grandparents crowd that turned out in Crawford to lend their wallets, fashion crews, and media teams. Oh wait, I mean to lend their “emotional support” for the “grieving” mother. Of course, Cindy doesn’t want all of the media attention. She wants to be able to “walk into the supermarket and not be recognized.” I...

CRAWFORD, Texas - Cindy Sheehan hasn't achieved a meeting with the president during her three-week war protest, but she met a man who plays one on TV. "At least you've got the acting president of the United States," Sheen said as the crowd of more than 300 people cheered. "I think you know what I do for a living, but this is what I do to stay alive." Sheehan arrived in President Bush's adopted hometown Aug. 6 and promised to stay until she could...

SLAIN AGENT: I DON'T BELIEVE U.S. VERSION-COMMUNIST LEADER (AGI) - Rome, Italy, March 5 - "A day that was supposed to be happy changed into pain and anger. I don't believe a word of the American version. It's clear that they are trying to hide what really happened. The Americans deliberately shot at the Italians. It's huge," said the secretary of the Italian Communist Party, Oliviero Diliberto, commenting on what took place after the liberation of the journalist Giuliana Sgrena. Diliberto said that "the entire centre left (in Italy) should ask the withdrawal of our troops in Parliament. Enough...

Organize for Thursday, February 17! The National Executive Committee of the NLG calls on all Guild chapters to organize and to take part in local actions as part of a "National Day of Outrage" in response to yesterday's Lynne Stewart verdict, which we see as an attack not only on our cherished colleague and fellow NLG member but also on all members of the legal community who represent unpopular clients and causes. We are calling for this coordinated day of action to be held next Thursday, February 17 in your cities, towns, and, if you are a law student, at...

Bitter Lessons For an American Family in Mideast Conflict By Allen G. Breed, AP Writer When Brian Avery called home in early January to say he was heading for Israel, his parents realized they could not stop him. Brian was an adult, after all. But he was still their youngest child, and they had to at least try. "This issue has been there for so long," his father, Bob Avery, tried to reason with his 24-year-old son. "How do you think you can change it?" "If everyone took the position that 'there's nothing I can do,"' Brian replied, "then nothing's...
