A potential Off Broadway production of "My Name Is Rachel Corrie," an acclaimed solo show about an American demonstrator killed by an Israeli bulldozer while trying to stop the destruction of a Palestinian home, has been postponed because of concerns about the show's political content. The production, a hit at the Royal Court Theater in London last year, had been tentatively scheduled to start performances at the New York Theater Workshop in the East Village on March 22. But yesterday, James C. Nicola, the artistic director of the workshop, said he had decided to postpone the show after polling local...

Last week, Muslims marched in the centre of London chanting "Freedom go to Hell!" There could be no more graphic illustration of the paradox at the heart of the cartoon row. These protesters were exercising - and in many cases abusing - the freedom of protest and freedom of assembly that are foundation stones of British democracy. Yet, even as they exploited these hard-won liberties, they were calling for them to be abolished. This newspaper would not have published the cartoons of Mohammed at the centre of this controversy, images which we regard as vulgar and fatuously insulting. But -...

Police made several arrests in the northern city of Leeds yesterday over the suspected al-Qaeda attacks that killed 52 people in London last week, Sky news television reported. BBC TV also said arrests had been made. Earlier, police took up positions around a home in Leeds and were reported to have carried out a controlled explosion. Police also raided six houses in the city. Neither London nor West Yorkshire police would confirm or deny the arrests or confirm reports of the controlled explosion. Armed officers surrounded a home in the suburb of Burley, Leeds, where the explosion reportedly happened. The...

I have been writing to numerous people ever since September 11, 2001. That event changed me. Before September 11, 2001 I assumed our government knew what it was doing in the world and I never questioned anything it did, but after September 11, 2001 i started to think ,why would anybody hate us so much as to try to kill as many Americans as possible. My quest for the truth lead me to one very sobering conclusion.........our policies, even before our independence in 1776, has gradually created a world in which we do not realize what people around the world...

Craig and Cindy Corrie, parents of Rachel Corrie, have devoted the past year to speaking about their daughter, who was killed one year ago as she attempted to stop a bulldozer approaching a Palestinian home. On the wall is a poster made by an artist in Rachel's honor.OLYMPIA — It isn't that they intended to turn the dining room into a shrine, explains Cindy Corrie, looking at a silk-screened, framed print of daughter Rachel. It's just that after Rachel Corrie died last year, as she tried to stop an Israeli bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian home, her parents were hurled...

OLYMPIA - It isn't that they intended to turn the dining room into a shrine, explains Cindy Corrie, looking at a silk-screened, framed print of daughter Rachel. It's just that after Rachel Corrie died last year, as she tried to stop an Israeli bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian home, her parents were hurled into a whirlwind of political activism. Cindy and Craig Corrie have had no time to slow down and settle in back home in Olympia. So one day when Cindy Corrie spotted a nail, doing nothing, on her dining room wall she simply chose to hang Rachel's picture...

For the past three years, no matter how monstrous the Palestinian attack on Israeli civilians, the Minneapolis Star Tribune has consistently refused to apply the word 'terrorism.' One of the paper's editors explained their 'evenhanded' position in February, 2002: "In the case of the term 'terrorist,' other words -- 'gunman,' 'separatist' and 'rebel,' for example -- may be more precise and less likely to be viewed as judgmental. We also take extra care to avoid the term 'terrorist' in articles about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict because of the emotional and heated nature of that dispute." Now, suddenly, the largest paper in...
