<p>Dozens of flag-waving rallies for American troops in Iraq look like spontaneous, grass-roots gatherings. But many are orchestrated by conservative political groups, just as anti-war protests are led by peace groups and activists on the political left.</p> <p>Rallies for the troops took place this weekend in cities and towns including New York, San Francisco, Miami, Cleveland, Honolulu, Jacksonville, Concord, N.H., Harrisburg, Pa., and Kingsport, Tenn. Wow! What a day. Let me start by saying that the temperature 2 days ago was 70 degrees with not a cloud in the sky. The forecast called for 40 degrees, with sunny skies. It was not to be. The temp when I arrived at the site was in the low thirties with heavy cloud cover, brisk winds and with the promise (threat) of snow. Just found out there is going to be a rally to support our troops tomorrow (Saturday), March 29th in Greensburg, Pa. at the Westmoreland County Courthouse at 2:00. I'm hoping to be there. Apparently it wasn't well publicized. It's being sponsored by the VFW. Hoping to see other Freepers there as well!

Today, in San Diego, several groups came together to hold a Support the Troops Rally. The location was the North Gate of Marine Corp Air Station - Miramar (formerly the location of Top Gun). The major event organizer was a group of Marine moms, called SOS (Support Our Soldiers); the other major supporter was Roger Hedgecock from KOGO 600 AM (and whom many of you know as a substitute for Rush Limbaugh). The news on KOGO is saying there were at least 3000 people. My daughter, my son and I were on the sidewalk for a while waving our flags. Then we kept cirlcing around in the van while waving our flags and playing Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" loud and clear. People started singing along with us. We finally left after 2 and half hours. Its still going on now as of 3:30pm PST. Some people have been there for over 4 hours. WHAT A GREAT COUNTRY. GOD BLESS THE USA AND OUR BRAVE TROOPS!

It was a spirited rally at the west steps of the California State Capitol. The crowd size was estimated at about 3,500 folks from all walks of life. One thing the military is usually quite good at is getting mail to the troops. It is not uncommon for a commander to not know where all his people are. But, somehow, the mail clerks can find them. Fact is, while in the Army I can remember being places where our government formally told the world we had no military people.
