Wikipedia:Sukhoi SU-35-Flanker-E The Sukhoi Su-35 (Russian: Сухой Су-35; NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) is designation of two different heavily-upgraded derivatives of the Su-27 'Flanker'. Both are single-seat, twin-engine supermaneuverable multirole fighters, designed by Sukhoi and built by Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO). The first variant was designed during the 1980s, when Sukhoi was looking to upgrade its high-performance Su-27, and was initially known as the Su-27M. Later re-designated Su-35, this derivative incorporates aerodynamic refinements to increase manoeuvrability, enhanced avionics, longer range, and a more powerful engine. The first Su-35 prototype, converted from a Su-27, made its maiden flight in June 1988....

China to buy Russian fighters, subs: state media China has agreed to buy two dozen fighter jets and four submarines from Russia, state media reported Monday, the country's first large-scale weapons technology purchases from Moscow in a decade. The agreement to buy the 24 Su-35 fighters and four Lada-class submarines was signed just before President Xi Jinping's weekend visit to Russia, said the People's Daily, the Communist Party organ, citing state television. The report, which did not give a value for the purchases, said it was the first time in 10 years China had bought "large military technological equipment" from...

  • Should Russia sell SU-35 to China?

Russia is reportedly close to finalizing a major sale of advanced fighter aircraft to China worth $4 billion. Such a sale, newsworthy in itself, would have been hard to imagine as recently as a few years ago considering the history of previous agreements. The anticipated deal, first reported by Kommersant, sees the two sides “practically agreed on the delivery of 48 Su-35 multirole fighters, worth $4 billion, to China.” Some reports suggest that Chinese officials have dismissed talk of such a deal. But if true, an agreement like this would certainly make sense for Beijing, giving China access to an...

China’s Sukhoi Submission China is executing an ambitious defense modernization plan designed to make the country militarily self-sufficient by around the 2020s. So with a range of domestic fighter aircraft development programs in train – including the stealthy J-20 – it seems that buying new fighter jets from Russia probably wasn’t part of that plan. Nonetheless, the Chinese have asked Russia to sell them the new Sukhoi Su-35 “Super Flanker” fighter aircraft, according to Alexander Fomin, deputy head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation. Cited by the Russian media, Fomin said that Beijing had filed a request for the...

China has asked Russia to supply it with Sukhoi Su-35 fighters and Almaz-Antei S-400 Triumph long-range air defence systems. The Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper quoted Alexander Fomin, deputy head of Russia's Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, as saying that Beijing filed requests for the equipment last year. "The Russian side is considering these applications," he said. Fomin refused to specify how many fighters China is seeking to buy. Last year it cancelled an order for a second batch of 95 Su-27s for local assembly, after Shenyang launched series production of its comparable J-11 design. Four Su-35s have so far been delivered...

"The Chinese party has shown interest in acquisition of a number of Su-35 jets and submitted a proposal to us in 2011. At present this problem is being elaborated by the designated institution of Russia", - said the First Deputy Director General of Federal Service of Military-Technical Cooperation, Alexander Fomin. Asia's Changing Balance of Power Russia's Sukhoi-35 sale to China requires a U.S. response.. Reports that Russia intends to sell China 48 of its most advanced fighter jets, the Sukhoi-35, are one more confirmation of a dangerous trend for the balance of power in East Asia. It's not just that China is expanding the number of planes, missiles, surface ships and submarines it can use to project power in the region. Rising economic and technological capabilities are also pushing Moscow into making deals for state-of-the-art weaponry. This requires that the U.S. pay more attention to the deterrent capability of its...

The single-seat Su-35S is a mid-life upgrade of the Su-27 Flanker. It combines the proven Flanker airframe with more powerful 117S engines equipped with thrust vector control. The electronics also have been overhauled...

Additionally, a contract for the delivery of six Su-30MK2 to Uganda was signed in March.
