Cohen, MarketWatch Last Update: 7:54 PM ET May 17, 2005 WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Senate on Tuesday overwhelmingly passed a six-year highway-spending bill that would exceed the Bush administration's budget target, setting the stage for a showdown with the White House. The bill, the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, would authorize $295 billion for highway and transportation programs through fiscal year 2009. The White House has warned lawmakers not to cap the bill at $284 billion. "We have made it very clear, and we...

George Michael has launched a withering attack on Elton John after his fellow pop star criticised his latest album, Patience, and told him to "get out more". Michael hit back after Sir Elton said in an interview: "George is in a strange place. There appears to be a deep-rooted unhappiness in his life." After reading the article in Heat magazine, Michael wrote an angry letter to the editor, published in this week's edition. He writes: "Elton John knows very little about George Michael and that's a fact. Contrary to the public's impression, we have spoken rarely in the last 10...

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- When Gerald Bennett, a convicted sex offender, tried to surrender to police on a bench warrant, they let him go on his way. Six days later, he killed a woman and raped a 13-year-old girl. In a strongly worded opinion, a federal judge has ruled that even though Glenolden police and Delaware County Prison officials bungled in checking the warrant, that wasn't reason enough to allow the victims' relatives to sue the officials. U.S. District Judge Stewart Dalzell dismissed a lawsuit against then-Glenolden Police Chief Edward Cooke and other officials, although he said the victims ''endured unspeakable...

Greetings! A few days ago, Vote.com put up a new subject. "Should American States Recognize Canadian Same-Sex Marriages?" was the question, with replies being sent by e-Mail to the President and to the voter's representatives in Congress. So far, so good. Vote.com does a lot of stuff like this. But what's odd is that on the first day, the vote was running about 70/30 against. Now, it's running about 75/25 FOR, and it appears that the lib/dem/soc/commies have been stacking the deck. One of my fellow posters on Vote.com did a bit of searching, and found the vote being mentioned...
