    Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., on Wednesday introduced a new bill that would lower Social Security’s full retirement age for workers in physically demanding jobs. The bill, called the Blue Collar Social Security Fairness Act, would make it so eligible individuals would be able to claim full Social Security retirement benefits starting at age 60. Currently, the earliest Social Security retirement age is 62, though beneficiaries receive reduced monthly checks for starting that soon.     If you are a retired police officer, fireman, or teacher, and also paid into Social Security prior to Jan 2024, it's likely the government still owes you money. The WEP was eliminated on 01/05/2025, and the government issued reimbursements to people who were affected by the WEP going back to 01/01/2024. But, if you retired between April 21, 1983, and December 31, 2023, what about all that time? In some cases, that could amount to tens of thousands of dollars.
